Answer:

A. 1.4 m/s to the left

Explanation:

To solve this problem we must use the principle of conservation of momentum. Let's define the velocity signs according to the direction, if the velocity is to the right, a positive sign will be introduced into the equation, if the velocity is to the left, a negative sign will be introduced into the equation. Two moments will be analyzed in this equation. The moment before the collision and the moment after the collision. The moment before the collision is taken to the left of the equation and the moment after the collision to the right, so we have:

M_{before} = M_{after}

where:

M = momentum [kg*m/s]

M = m*v

where:

m = mass [kg]

v = velocity [m/s]

(m_{1} *v_{1} )-(m_{2} *v_{2})=(m_{1} *v_{3} )+(m_{2} *v_{4})

where:

m1 = mass of the basketball = 0.5 [kg]

v1 = velocity of the basketball before the collision = 5 [m/s]

m2 = mass of the tennis ball = 0.05 [kg]

v2 = velocity of the tennis ball before the collision = - 30 [m/s]

v3 =  velocity of the basketball after the collision [m/s]

v4 = velocity of the tennis ball after the collision = 34 [m/s]

Now replacing and solving:

(0.5*5) - (0.05*30) = (0.5*v3) + (0.05*34)

1 - (0.05*34) = 0.5*v3

- 0.7 = 0.5*v

v = - 1.4 [m/s]

The negative sign means that the movement is towards left

A 1300 kg steel beam is supported by two ropes. (Figure
Dmitriy789 [7]

Relative to the positive horizontal axis, rope 1 makes an angle of 90 + 20 = 110 degrees, while rope 2 makes an angle of 90 - 30 = 60 degrees.

By Newton's second law,

  • the net horizontal force acting on the beam is

R_1 \cos(110^\circ) + R_2 \cos(60^\circ) = 0

where R_1,R_2 are the magnitudes of the tensions in ropes 1 and 2, respectively;

  • the net vertical force acting on the beam is

R_1 \sin(110^\circ) + R_2 \sin(60^\circ) - mg = 0

where m=1300\,\rm kg and g=9.8\frac{\rm m}{\mathrm s^2}.

Eliminating R_2, we have

\sin(60^\circ) \bigg(R_1 \cos(110^\circ) + R_2 \cos(60^\circ)\bigg) - \cos(60^\circ) \bigg(R_1 \sin(110^\circ) + R_2 \sin(60^\circ)\bigg) = 0\sin(60^\circ) - mg\cos(60^\circ)

R_1 \bigg(\sin(60^\circ) \cos(110^\circ) - \cos(60^\circ) \sin(110^\circ)\bigg) = -\dfrac{mg}2

R_1 \sin(60^\circ - 110^\circ) = -\dfrac{mg}2

-R_1 \sin(50^\circ) = -\dfrac{mg}2

R_1 = \dfrac{mg}{2\sin(50^\circ)} \approx \boxed{8300\,\rm N}

Solve for R_2.

\dfrac{mg\cos(110^\circ)}{2\sin(50^\circ)} + R_2 \cos(60^\circ) = 0

\dfrac{R_2}2 = -mg\cot(110^\circ)

R_2 = -2mg\cot(110^\circ) \approx \boxed{9300\,\rm N}

Add a vector whose magnitude is 13 with angle 27 degrees to one whose magnitude is 11 with angle 45 degrees? Put the length firs
mafiozo [28]

Answer:

Magnitude of the vector is 23.75\ \text{units} and the direction is 35.23^{\circ}

Explanation:

Magnitude of first vector = |A| = 13\ \text{units}

Angle = \theta_1=27^{\circ}

Magnitude of second vector = |B| = 11\ \text{units}

Angle = \theta_2=45^{\circ}

x component of first vector

A_{x}=|A|\cos\theta_1\\\Rightarrow A_x=13\cos27^{\circ}\\\Rightarrow A_x=11.6\ \text{units}

y component of first vector

A_{y}=|A|\sin\theta_1\\\Rightarrow A_y=13\sin27^{\circ}\\\Rightarrow A_y=5.9\ \text{units}

x component of second vector

B_{x}=|B|\cos\theta_2\\\Rightarrow B_x=11\cos45^{\circ}\\\Rightarrow B_x=7.8\ \text{units}

y component of first vector

B_{y}=|B|\sin\theta_2\\\Rightarrow B_y=11\sin45^{\circ}\\\Rightarrow A_y=7.8\ \text{units}

Adding the magnitudes

C_x=A_x+B_x=11.6+7.8\\\Rightarrow C_x=19.4\ \text{units}

C_y=A_y+B_y=5.9+7.8\\\Rightarrow C_y=13.7\ \text{units}

Magnitude of the sum of the vectors would be

|C|=\sqrt{C_x^2+C_y^2}\\\Rightarrow |C|=\sqrt{19.4^2+13.7^2}=23.75\ \text{units}

The direction would be

\theta=\tan^{-1}\dfrac{C_y}{C_x}\\\Rightarrow \theta=\tan^{-1}\dfrac{13.7}{19.4}\\\Rightarrow \theta=35.23^{\circ}

The magnitude of the vector is 23.75\ \text{units} and the direction is 35.23^{\circ}
