164. You have excess hydrogen- you need double the number of moles hydrogen as oxygen because water has two hydrogens and only one oxygen while both hydrogen gas and oxygen gas are diatomic.

Because oxygen is diatomic, you spit it in half and basically double the number of moles, tack on your excess hydrogen, and you have 164 moles of water.

Edit: Lets look at it in one more way, taking into account what a mole is:

A mole is Avogadro's Constant number of particles- or about 6.02x10^23. So, we can multiply the number of moles you have to figure out how many particles of each we have. You can skip this step, because we will convert back to moles, but its illustrative of the concept.

6.02x10^23 x 174 moles H2 = 1.05 x 10^26 particles H2
6.02x10^23 x 82 moles O2 = 4.94 x 10^25 particles O2

I'm going to take one more step here- take them out of diatomic form. This will double the number of particles of each.

2.10 x 10^26 particles H+
9.88 x 10^25 particles O(2-)

Now, we know we need a 2:1 oxygen atom to hydrogen atom ration, so we devide and see oxygen is our limiting reagent. So, we have 9.88 x 10^25 single oxygen atoms, all of which will become water the hydr

Using the periodic table, how would you find elements with chemical properties similar to helium?
rosijanka [135]
The state of the helium in its natural form is gaseous and is a chemical element of colorless aspect and belongs to the group of noble gases. The atomic number of helium is 2. The chemical symbol of helium is He. For the following we focus on those elements and relate it with similar chemical properties. Then we find that; Neon, Hydrogen, Boron and Carbon are related to helium, either by proximity in their atomic number or period or by their group.

assume in a different experiment, you prepare a mixture containing 10.0 M FeSCN2+, 1.0 M H+, 0.1 MFe3+ and 0.1 M HSCN. Is the in
Katarina [22]

Answer:

The mixture is not in equilibrium, the reaction will shift to the left.

Explanation:

Based on the equilibrium:

Fe³⁺+ HSCN ⇄ FeSCN²⁺ + H⁺

kc = 30 = [FeSCN²⁺] [H⁺] / [Fe³⁺] [HSCN]

Where [] are concentrations at equilibrium. The reaction is in equilibrium when the ratio of concentrations = kc

Q is the same expression than kc but with [] that are not in equilibrium

Replacing:

Q = [10.0M] [1.0M] / [0.1M] [0.1M]

Q = 1000

As Q > kc, the reaction will shift to the left in order to produce Fe³⁺ and HSCN untill Q = Kc

How many total moles of ions are released when the following sample dissolves completely in water? 6.188 x 10 21 formula units o
elixir [45]

Answer:

e. 3.08 x 10⁻² mol of ions.

Explanation:

 • Every 1.0 mole of any compound contains Avogadro's number of molecules (6.022 x 10²³).

 • We can get the no. of moles of NiCl₂ using cross multiplication:

1.0 mol NiCl₂ contains → 6.022 x 10²³ molecules.

??? mol NiCl₂ contains → 6.188 x 10²¹ molecules.

∴ The no. of moles of NiCl₂ = (1.0 mol)(6.188 x 10²¹ molecules)/(6.022 x 10²³ molecules) = 1.028 x 10⁻² mol.

 • NiCl₂ is ionized according to the equation:

NiCl₂ → Ni²⁺ + 2Cl⁻.

Which means that every 1.0 mol of NiCl₂ is ionized to produce 3.0 moles (1.0 mol of Ni²⁺ and 2 moles of Cl⁻).

∴ The total moles of ions are released = 3 x 1.028 x 10⁻² mol = 3.083 x 10⁻² mol of ions.
