Answer:

<h2><em>12.45eV</em></h2>

Explanation:

Before calculating the work function, we must know the formula for calculating the kinetic energy of an electron. The kinetic energy of an electron is the taken as the difference between incident photon energy and work function of a metal.

Mathematically, KE =  hf - Ф where;

h is the Planck constant

f is the frequency = c/λ

c is the speed of light

λ is the wavelength

Ф is the work function

The formula will become KE =  hc/λ - Ф. Making the work function the subject of the formula we have;

Ф = hc/λ - KE

Ф = hc/λ - 1/2mv²

Given parameters

c = 3*10⁸m/s

λ = 97*10⁻⁹m

velocity of the electron v = 3.48*10⁵m/s

h = 6.62607015 × 10⁻³⁴

m is the mass of the electron = 9.10938356 × 10⁻³¹kg

Substituting the given parameters into the formula Ф = hc/λ - 1/2mv²

Ф =  6.63 × 10⁻³⁴*3*10⁸/97*10⁻⁹ -  1/2*9.11*10⁻³¹(3.48*10⁵)²

Ф = 0.205*10⁻¹⁷ - 4.555*10⁻³¹*12.1104*10¹⁰

Ф = 0.205*10⁻¹⁷ - 55.163*10⁻²¹

Ф = 0.205*10⁻¹⁷ - 0.0055.163*10⁻¹⁷

Ф = 0.1995*10⁻¹⁷Joules

Since 1eV = 1.60218*10⁻¹⁹J

x = 0.1995*10⁻¹⁷Joules

cross multiply

x = 0.1995*10⁻¹⁷/1.60218*10⁻¹⁹

x = 0.1245*10²

x = 12.45eV

<em>Hence the work function of the metal in eV is 12.45eV</em>

What is your velocity if it takes you 40 seconds to walk around a circle of 50meters 3 times?
Shtirlitz [24]

Answer:

0 m/s

Explanation:

Velocity is displacement over time.  Displacement is the distance between your initial position and your final position.  If you walk in a circle, you end up back where you started, so your displacement is 0.  Therefore, your velocity is also 0.

A small car with mass m and speed 2v and a large car with mass 2m and speed v both travel the same circular section of an unbank
Alenkasestr [34]

Answer:

(D) F/2

Explanation:

Since the circular section is unbanked, the centripedal acceleration acting on each of the cars is

a_s = \frac{v_s^2}{r} = \frac{(2v)^2}{r} = \frac{4v^2}{r}

a_l = \frac{v_l^2}{r} = \frac{v^2}{r}

Therefore the centripetal force on each car

F_s = m_sa_s = \frac{4mv^2}{r}

F_l = m_la_l = \frac{2mv^2}{r}

Since F_s = 2F_l this means the friction force required to keep the large car on the road is only half of the friction force required to keep the small car on road

So (D) F/2 is the correct answer

What happens to the body’s immune system when attacked by HIV ?
labwork [276]

Answer:

HIV attacks a specific type of immune system cell in the body. It's known as the CD4 helper cell or T cell. When HIV destroys this cell, it becomes harder for the body to fight off other infections.
