Glycerin is poured into an open U-shaped tube until the height in both sides is 20cm. Ethyl alcohol is then poured into one arm

until the height of the alcohol column is 20cm. The two liquids do not mix. What is the difference in height between the top surface of the glycerin and the top surface of the alcohol?

Answer:

7.5 cm

Explanation:

In the figure we can see a sketch of the problem. We know that at the bottom of the U-shaped tube the pressure is equal in both branches. Defining \rho_A: Ethyl alcohol density and \rho_G: Glycerin density , we can write:

\rho_A\times g \times h_1 + \rho_G \times g \times h_2 = \rho_G \times g \times h_3

Simplifying:

\rho_A\times h_1 = \rho_G \times (h_3 - h_2) (1)

On the other hand:

h_1 + h_2 = \Delta h + h_3

Rearranging:

h_1 - \Delta h = h_3 - h_2 (2)

Replacing  (2) in (1):

\rho_A\times h_1 = \rho_G \times (h_1 - \Delta h)

Rearranging:

\frac{h_1 \times (\rho_A - \rho_G)}{- \rho_G} = \Delta h

Data:

h_1 = 20 cm; \rho_A = 0.789 \frac{g}{cm^3}; \rho_G = 1.26 \frac{g}{cm^3}

\frac{20 cm \times (0.789 - 1.26) \frac{g}{cm^3}}{- 1.26\frac{g}{cm^3}}  = \Delta h

7.5 cm =  \Delta h

A simple pendulum on the surface of Earth is found to undergo 15.0 complete small‑amplitude oscillations in 8.75 s. Find the pen
FinnZ [79.3K]

Answer:

Length of the Pendulum is 14.4 cm

Explanation:

Time period of simple pendulum is given by

T=2\pi \sqrt{\frac{L}{g} } \\

time taken for one oscillation is

T=\frac{time taken}{oscillations} \\T=\frac{8.75}{15} \\T=0.583 s

Pendulum length on the earth surface is

L=\frac{T^2g}{4\pi^2 }\\L=\frac{0.583\times 9.8}{4\pi^2 } \\L=0.144 m

Length of the Pendulum is 14.4 cm

Caleb rides his motorcycle with a constant speed of 72km/h. How far can he Travel in 3 hours 40 minutes
lina2011 [118]
264 km

72 x 3 hr = 216 km
72/60 (min in an hr) =  1.2(km per min) x 40 = 48 km
216 + 48 = 264

Help me plzzz?? I need help it on the picture
madam [21]

No.
The acceleration of gravity on or near Earth's surface is 9.8 m/s² ,
not 20 m/s² .

If it were 20 m/s², then you would weigh almost exactly double
what you really weigh now.

I'm studying the equilibrium of forces so hard that I got confused for a sec. Is the force due to gravity included in summing up
jenyasd209 [6]

Answer:

Yes, you would consider the mass × gravity at the centre of gravity of the object in question to cause a moment, hence it should be included in your resolution
