Answer:

The differences are listed below

Explanation:

The differences between consolidation and compaction are as follows:

In compaction the mechanical pressure is used to compress the soil. In consolidation, there is an application of stead pressure.

In compaction, there is a dynamic load by rapid mechanical methods like tamping, rolling, etc. In consolidation, there is static and sustained pressure applied for a long time.

In compaction, the soil volume is reduced by removing air from the void. In consolidation, the soil volume is reduced by squeezing out water from the pores.

Compaction is used for sandy soil, consolidation on the other hand, is used for clay soil.

Answer: Find the explanation below.

Explanation:

Three factors which cause Settlement of Foundation include;

1a. Irregularities in the amount of moisture - Soil can be easily weakened when there is too much moisture.

1b. Incompatible soil types - When the soil texture is not so strong as to withstand pressure from the foundation, settlement of foundation could occur. To tackle this problem, the soil type has to be properly evaluated and the appropriate load-bearing footings should be used.

1c. Improper compaction of fill soils - When fill soils are properly compacted, it can support foundations well. But proper compaction would make them to weaken under the pressure of the foundation.

2. Soil compression is the reduction in the volume of soil which occurs when the soil is under the pressure of a load. It is a common factor in both soil consolidation and compaction.

Soil consolidation occurs when the weight of a building compresses or exerts pressure on a weak soil. Water is removed from the soil in this process.

Soil compaction is the compression of a soil mass as a result of mechanical pressure. The air void is removed from the soil mass.

3. A soil is overconsolidated when an exerting pressure was removed and then applied again.

Normal consolidation occurs when the soil at present is undergoing a very high pressure from a load.

Air enters a turbine with a stagnation pressure of 900 kPa and a stagnation temperature of 658K, and it is expanded to a stagnat
bezimeni [28]

Answer:

12.332 KW

The positive sign indicates work done by the system ( Turbine )

Explanation:

Stagnation pressure( P1 ) = 900 kPa

Stagnation temperature ( T1 ) = 658K

Expanded stagnation pressure ( P2 ) = 100 kPa

Expansion process is Isentropic, also assume steady state condition

mass flow rate ( m ) = 0.04 kg/s

Calculate the Turbine power

Assuming a steady state condition

( p1 / p2 )^(r-1/r)  = ( T1 / T2 )

= (900 / 100)^(1.4-1/1.4) = ( 658 / T2 )

=  ( 9 )^0.285 = 658 / T2

∴ T2 = 351.22 K

Finally Turbine Power / power developed can be calculated as

Wt = mCp ( T1 - T2 )

    = 0.04 * 1.005 ( 658 - 351.22 )

    = 12.332 KW

The positive sign indicates work done by the system ( Turbine )

A 2 in. diameter pipe supplying steam at 300°F is enclosed in a 1 ft square duct at 70°F. The outside of the duct is perfectly i
Shkiper50 [21]

Answer:

The value of heat transferred watt per foot length Q = 54.78 Watt per foot length.

Explanation:

Diameter of pipe = 2 in = 0.0508 m

Steam temperature T_{1} = 300 F  = 422.04 K

Duct temperature T_{2} = 70 F = 294.26 K

Emmisivity of surface 1 = 0.79

Emmisivity of surface 2 = 0.276

Net emmisivity of both surfaces ∈ = 0.25

Stefan volazman constant \sigma = 5.67 × 10^{-8} \frac{W}{m^{2} K^{4}  }

Heat transfer per foot length is given by

Q = ∈ \sigma A ( T_{1}^{4} - T_{2} ^{4} ) ------ (1)

Put all the values in equation (1) , we get

Q = 0.25 × 5.67 × 10^{-8} × 3.14 × 0.0508 × 1 × ( 422.04^{4} - 294.26^{4} )

Q = 54.78 Watt per foot.

This is the value of heat transferred watt per foot length.

Your study space does not need to be quiet as long as you can ignore any noise coming from the space true or false?
Makovka662 [10]

Answer:

False

Explanation:

When you're studying, you need to make sure that you can focus properly. This means that you shouldn't be hungry or too full and that you should be well-rested, in a quiet room with good lighting and no distractions. Noise is never good when you need to memorize something. Some people can partially ignore it as long as it isn't too loud, but it will begin to bother them eventually. That's why it's better to study in a quiet room.

deff fn [24]

Answer:

Engineer A results will be more accurate

Explanation:

Analytical method is better than numerical method. Engineer A has used analytical method and therefore his results will be more accurate because he used simplified method. Engineer B has used software to solve the problem related to heat transfer his results will be approximate.
