Answer:

Explanation:

The biochemistry that takes place inside cells depends on various elements, such as sodium, potassium, and

calcium, that are dissolved in water as ions. These ions enter cells through narrow pores in the cell membrane

known as ion channels. Each ion channel, which is formed from a specialized protein molecule, is selective

for one type of ion. Measurements with microelectrodes have shown that a 0.30-nm-diameter potassium ion (K+) channel carries a current of 1.8 pA.

Part A. How many potassium ions pass through if the ion channel opens for 1.0 ms?

Part B. What is the current density in the ion channel?

Solution: In 1.0 ms, the charge that passes through is

Q = I ∆t =

( 1.8 × 10−12 A ) (1.0 × 10−3 s )

= 1.8 × 10−15 C

Since each ion has a +1 charge (measured in electron charges), this represents

NK+ = Q e = (1.8 × 10−15 C ) (1.60 × 10−19 C) = 11250

The current density is calculated from the current and the size of the channel.

J = I A = ( 1.8 × 10−12 A ) ( π (0.30 × 10−9 m/2)2 ) = 2.55 × 107 A/m2

DDT, an insecticide harmful to fish, birds, and humans, is produced by the following reaction. 2 C6H5Cl + C2HOCl3 → C14H9Cl5 + H
Elena-2011 [213]

Answer:

1,070.41 grams of DDT will be formed .Explanation:

1) 2 C_6H_5Cl + C_2HOCl_3\rightarrow C_{14}H_9Cl_5 + H_2O

Moles of chlorobenzene = \frac{1197 g}{112.5 g/mol}=10.64 mol

According to reaction, 2 moles of chloro benzene reacts with 1 mole of chloral . Then 10.64 moles of chloro benzene will react with :

\frac{1}{2}\times 10.64 mol=5.32 mole of chloral

2) Moles of chloral = \frac{456 g}{147.5 g/mol}=3.0915 mol

According to reaction, 1 moles of chloral reacts with 2 mole of chlorobenzene . Then 3.0915 moles of chloral will react with :

\frac{2}{1}\times 3.0915 mol=6.1830 mol of chloro benzene

As we can see that chloral is in limiting amount and chloro benzene is in excessive amount. So, amount of DDT will depend upon amount of chloral.

According to reaction, 1 mole chloral gives 1 mole DDT.Then 3.0195 moles of chloral will give :

\frac{1}{1}\times 3.0195 mol=3.0195 mol

Mass of 3.0195 moles of DTT :

3.0195 mol × 354.5 g/mol = 1,070.41 g

1,070.41 grams of DDT will be formed .

Question 6 (3 points)
olga55 [171]

Answer:

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Molarity of KOH = 0.26M

Volume of H₂SO₄ = 19.76mL

Molarity of H₂SO₄ = 0.20M

Unknown:

Volume of KOH = ?

Solution:

This is a neutralization reaction in which an acid reacts with a base to produce salt and water:

         H₂SO₄     +     2KOH      →    K₂SO₄    +     2H₂O

 We solve from the known to the unknown in the reaction.

The known is the acid and from there we can find the number of moles of the acid to be completely neutralized:

       Number of moles of acid = molarity x volume

       Number of moles of acid = 19.76 x 0.20 = 3.95mol

From the balanced reaction equation:

      1 mole of acid reacts with 2 moles of the bases KOH

     3.95mole of acid would react with 3.95moles x 2 of the base

  Number of moles of reacting base = 7.90moles

To find the volume of base;

  Volume of base = \frac{number of moles of base}{molarity}

   Volume = \frac{7.90}{0.26} = 30.40mL

How could an alpha particle pass straight through the metal foil and strike the center of the phosphor screen on the other side
EleoNora [17]
It was due to the metal foil in which the alpha particles can't even pass through. This experiment conducted by Rutherford led to the discovery of protons.
