Achiral compound X has the formula C8H17Br. Y, C8H17Cl, is chiral. X undergoes base-promoted E2 elimination to give a single alk

ene product Z. Under similar conditions Y produces a mixture of alkenes, including Z. Catalytic hydrogenation of Z affords 2-methylheptane. Propose structures for X and Y.

Answer:

1-bromo-6-methylheptane : X

2-chloro-6-methylheptane: Y

Explanation:

A chiral compound is one which has a carbon with all four groups different.

Given:

Compound X is Achiral

Compound Y is chiral

Compound X gives single alkene on elimination : Z

Compound Y gives mixture of alkenes

Z on hydrogenation gives 2-methylheptane.

So the alkene must have carbon chain arrangement similar to 2-methylheptane and so the compound X and Y.

Based on the information the possible compounds are:

1-bromo-6-methylheptane : X

2-chloro-6-methylheptane: Y

The structures are shown in the figure.

A persistent or nonvolatile chemical agent can: Select one: a. explode without warning and releases gases. b. remain in the envi
avanturin [10]

Answer: A persistent or non-volatile chemical agent can remain on a surface for more than 24 hours.

Explanation:

Non-volatile substance is defined as the one which does not readily evaporate into its surrounding. Generally, a non-volatile substance has strong intermolecular forces between its molecules.

A non-volatile substance will take more than 24 hours to remain on the surface.

On the other hand, a substance with weak intermolecular forces present in its molecules will readily evaporate into the atmosphere.

For example, acetic acid is a volatile substance and quickly evaporates into the atmosphere.

Thus, we can conclude that a persistent or non-volatile chemical agent can remain on a surface for more than 24 hours.

It is not from thermodynamic energy?
prohojiy [21]

Answer:

(a) Utilization

Explanation:

Thermodynamic energy are:

(1) Kinetic energy:

Kinetic energy is that type of energy of a body which occurs due to the motion of body. Kinetic energy is always positive. In a bound system, the system remains bound as long as the kinetic energy is less than the potential energy due to the interaction of the body.

                            K.E = \frac{1}{2}mv^{2}

(2) Potential energy:

Potential energy is defined as the energy in which the energy is possessed by a body or a system for doing some work, by virtue of its position above the ground level.

Therefore,

Potential energy = PE = mgh

This potential energy is a result of gravity pulling downwards. The gravitational constant, g, is the acceleration of an object due to gravity. This acceleration is about 9.8 m s⁻².

(3) Stored energy:

Stored energy is a Potential energy.

Hence, the only energy which is not a thermodynamic energy is option (a) Utilization energy.
