The sympathetic nervous system responds to the stimuli of danger while the parasympathetic nervous system helps us to relax by secreting specific hormones.

These two systems interact with the endocrine system and release hormones and chemicals which circulate in our body and regulate our emotions and behaviors. These hormones and chemicals not only affect our growth and metabolism behaviors but also control our emotions such as anger, sadness, happiness, and fear.
