A 40 g block of ice is cooled to -69°C and is then added to 590 g of water in an 80 g copper calorimeter at a temperature of 22°

C. Determine the final temperature of the system consisting of the ice, water, and calorimeter. Remember that the ice must first warm to 0°C, melt, and then continue warming as water. The specific heat of ice is 0.500 cal/g·°C = 2090 J/kg°C.

Answer:

T = 16.7 Degree C

Explanation:

Heat released by water and copper calorimeter if they reach to Zero degree celcius from initial temperature

Q = ms\Delta T

Q = 590(4.86)(22 - 0) + 80(0.385)(22 - 0)

Q = 63082.8 + 677.6 = 63760.4 J

now heat required to raise the temperature of ice to 0 degree Celcius

Q_1 = ms\Delta T

Q_1 = 40(2.090)(0 - (-69))

Q_1 = 5768.4 J

now heat required to melt the ice

Q_2 = mL = 40 (335 J/g) = 13400 J

total heat required to melt the ice will be

Q = Q_1 + Q_2 = 19168.4

now remaining heat after whole system is at zero degree celcius is

Q_{net} = 63760.4 - 19168.4 = 44592 J

now the final temperature of the system is given as

Q_{net} = ms\Delta T

44592 = (590 + 40)(4.186)(T - 0) + 80(0.385)(T - 0)[tex]T = 16.7 Degree C

An airplane is flying from Dallas, Texas to Pensacola, Florida. Flying at maximum velocity, it encounters strong winds moving at
jenyasd209 [6]

Answer:

G. It will take twice as long.

Explanation:

Let's call v the original speed of the plane and d the distance between Dallas and Pensacola. The time the plane originally takes to complete the flight is

t=\frac{d}{v}

In this problem, we are told that the plane encounters wind moving at half of its speed: \frac{v}{2}, in the opposite direction. This means that the new speed of the plane is

v'=v-\frac{v}{2}=\frac{v}{2}

And so, the time the plane takes now to complete the flight is

t'=\frac{d}{v/2}=2\frac{d}{v}=2t

So, the plane takes twice the time as before.

There's an electric field in some region of space that doesn't change with position. An electron starts moving with a speed of 2
tangare [24]

Answer:

Explanation:

Given

speed of Electron u=2\times 10^7\ m/s

final speed of Electron v=4\times 10^7\ m/s

distance traveled d=1.2\ cm

using equation of motion

v^2-u^2=2as

where v=Final velocity

u=initial velocity

a=acceleration

s=displacement

(4\times 10^7)^2-(2\times 10^7)^2=2\times a\times 1.2\times 10^{-2}

a=5\times 10^{16}\ m/s^2

acceleration is given by a=\frac{qE}{m}

where q=charge of electron

m=mass of electron

E=electric Field strength

5\times 10^{16}=\frac{1.6\times 10^{-19}\cdot E}{9.1\times 10^{-31}}

E=248.3\ kN/C

What is the maximum speed when the conditions are mass =450 kg, initial height= 30 m, and the roller coaster is initially at res
Zarrin [17]

Answer:

B. 24.2 m/s

Explanation:

Given;

mass of the roller coaster, m = 450 kg

height of the roller coaster, h = 30 m

The maximum potential energy of the roller coaster  due to its height is given by;

P.E_{max} = mgh\\\\PE_{max} = 450 *9.8*30\\\\PE_{max} = 132,300 \ J

P.E_{max} = K.E_{max} \ (law \ of \ conservation\ of \ energy)

K.E_{max} = \frac{1}{2}mv_{max}^2\\\\ v_{max}^2 = \frac{2K.E_{max}}{m}\\\\ v_{max}^2 = \frac{2*132300}{450}\\\\ v_{max}^2 =588\\\\v_{max} = \sqrt{588}\\\\  v_{max} = 24.2 \ m/s

Therefore, the maximum speed of the roller coaster is 24.2 m/s.
