Answer:

Solubility of gases in water: a. decreases with increasing pressure above solution. b. increases with increasing pressure above solution.c. is independent of pressure above solution.d. Gases are not soluble in water.e. none of the above

The answer to the question is option B (increases with increasing pressure above solution).

Explanation:

Solubility is the chemical property of a solute to dissolve into a solvent. The solubility which is the characteristic property of a specific solute–solvent combination of a substance fundamentally depends on the solvent used, as well as temperature and pressure.

Concentration of molecules in the gas phase increases with increasing pressure. At low pressure, a gas has a low solubility, while at at high pressure, a gas has a high solubility. The rate at which gas molecules collide with the surface of the liquid and dissolve depends on the pressure of the gas in relation to the number of molecules of gas per unit volume. The solubility of gases in water, makes an increase in pressure result in a proportional increase in solubility, whereas a decrease in pressure decreases solubility.

This can be expressed in the equation: C= k x Pgas

where C= solubility of gas in solvent, k= proportionality constant and Pgas = partial pressure of the gas above the solution.

Watch the animation and identify the correct conditions for forming a hydrogen bond. check all that apply. check all that apply.
OLga [1]
The ch4 molecule exhibits hydrogen bonding.
This statement is false. A CH4 molecule do not have a hydrogen bonding instead it has dipole dipole attraction.

Hydrogen bonding occurs when a hydrogen atom is covalently bonded to an N, O, or F atom.
This would be a true statement. A hydrogen bond is present when an atom of hydrogen shares electrons with O, N or F atom.

A hydrogen bond is equivalent to a covalent bond.
This is a false statement. A hydrogen bond is an intermolecular force of attraction while covalent bond is a intramolecular force. So, they would mean different things.

a hydrogen bond is possible with only certain hydrogen-containing compounds.
This would be true. Without the presence of an hydrogen atom definitely there would be no hydrogen bond.

a hydrogen atom acquires a partial positive charge when it is covalently bonded to an f atom.
This would be true since a HF is a polar molecule.

One sound is loud and another is quieter. What must be different about these two sound waves?
tankabanditka [31]

Compare and contrast: element, atom, isotope
blsea [12.9K]

Answer:

Element is made up of the atoms or isotopes. Isotopes are where only neutrons change in number, such as 3 turning to 2 or to 5. Atom is where it is not changed and it is the original, and example is instead of Carbon13 it is just Carbon. I hope this helps.
