When the Glen Canyon hydroelectric power plant in Arizona is running at capacity, 690 m3 of water flows through the dam each sec
bixtya [17]

Answer:

1340.2MW

Explanation:

Hi!

To solve this problem follow the steps below!

1 finds the maximum maximum power, using the hydraulic power equation which is the product of the flow rate by height by the specific weight of fluid

W=αhQ

α=specific weight for water =9.81KN/m^3

h=height=220m

Q=flow=690m^3/s

W=(690)(220)(9.81)=1489158Kw=1489.16MW

2. Taking into account that the generator has a 90% efficiency, Find the real power by multiplying the ideal power by the efficiency of the electric generator

Wr=(0.9)(1489.16MW)=1340.2MW

the maximum possible electric power output is 1340.2MW

Alcohol of mass 33.2g and density 0.79kg/m³ or 790kg/m³ is mixed with water of 9g. What is the density of the resulting mixture?
KATRIN_1 [288]

Answer:

 0.83 g/cm³

Explanation:

The volume of the alcohol is ...

 (33.2 g)/(0.79 g/cm³) ≈ 42.0253 cm³

The density of water is about 1 g/cm³, so the volume of 9 g of it is ...

 (9 g)/(1 g/cm³) = 9 cm³

The total volume is ...

 42.0253 cm³ +9 cm³ = 51.0253 cm³

The total mass is ...

 33.2 g + 9 g = 42.4 g

So, the resulting density is ...

 (42.4 g)/(51.0253 cm³) ≈ 0.83 g/cm³

The resulting mixture has a density of about 0.83 g/cm³.

_____

Additional comment

Alcohol dissolves in water, so the total volume will be slightly less than 51.0253 cm³. The attached curve shows the result of mixing ethanol and water.

The weight of a mole of ethanol is about 46 g, of water, about 18.02 g. Then the mole fraction of alcohol is ...

 (33.2/46)/(33.2/46 +9/18.02) ≈ 0.59

The volume of the mix is then estimated to be (-1.05 cc/mol)(1.221 mol), or about 1.28 cm³ less than the volume indicated above. That brings the density up to about 0.85 g/cm³.

We're not completely sure of the relevance of this calculation, since many of the applicable parameters are not specified. The point is that the density of the mix will probably be slightly more than the value calculated above. YMMV

During a free fall Swati was accelerating at -9.8m/s2. After 120 seconds how far did she travel? Use the formula =1/2 *
marta [7]
Distance fallen = 1/2 ( V initial + V final ) *t
We know
a = -9.8 m/s2
t=120s

To find distance fallen, we need to find V final
Use the equation
V final = V initial + a*t
Substitute known values
V final = 0 + (-9.8)(120)
V final = -1176 m/s

Then plug known values to distance fallen equation
Distance fallen = 1/2 ( 0 + 1176 )(120)
= 1/2(1776)(120)
=106,560 m

This way plugging into distance equation is actually the long way. A faster way is to plug the values into
Distance fallen = V initial * t + 1/2(a*t)
We won't need to find V final using another equation.

But anyways, good luck!

molecular cloud <interstellar cloud <1 Msun protostar <1 Msun star <intercloud gas

Explanation:

Molecular cloud- They are a variety of interstellar cloud in which molecular hydrogen can sustain themselves. They have a very low temperature ranging from -440 to -370 degrees Fahrenheit or between 10 to 50 Kelvin. Owing to their extremely low temperature, they appear mostly dark when viewed through telescopes.

Interstellar cloud- They are a congregation of a large number of interstellar gases, dust and plasma in any galaxy or universe. They have varying temperature depending on their proximity to a star. E.g. Neutral hydrogen atom clouds have a temperature of around just 100 Kelvin while those in the near vicinity of a star have temperatures as high as 10,000 Kelvin.

1 Msun star- These stars have temperature anywhere between 5300 and 6000 Kelvin. The main source of such high surface temperature is nuclear fusion process where elemental hydrogen molecules are fused to form helium molecules.

1 Msun protostar- protostar is rather a young star which is still in formation phase (i.e. gathering mass from the parent molecular cloud). They have temperature anywhere between 2000-3000 kelvin and are accompanied by dust usually.

Intercloud gas- These are the remainder gases that are spread throughout the interstellar space. This Intercloud gas is divided into warm intercloud medium and extremely hot coronal gas with temperatures comparing to Sun’s corona. Warm intercloud forms the dominant part of intercloud gas with a temperature around 8000 Kelvin.
