Sometimes a person cannot clearly see objects close up or far away. To correct this type of vision, bifocals are often used. The

top half of the lens is used to view distant objects and the bottom half of the lens is used to view objects close to the eye. Bifocal lenses are used to correct his vision. A diverging lens is used in the top part of the lens to allow the person to clearly see distant objects.
1. What power lens (in diopters) should be used in the top half of the lens to allow her to clearly see distant objects?
2. What power lens (in diopters) should be used in the bottom half of the lens to allow him to clearly see objects 25 cm away?

Answer:

1)   P₁ = -2 D,   2) P₂ = 6 D

Explanation:

for this exercise in geometric optics let's use the equation of the constructor

          \frac{1}{f} = \frac{1}{p} + \frac{1}{q}

where f is the focal length, p and q are the distance to the object and the image, respectively

1) to see a distant object it must be at infinity (p = ∞)

          \frac{1}{f_1} = \frac{1}{q}

           q = f₁

2) for an object located at p = 25 cm

            \frac{1}{f_2} = \frac{1}{25} + \frac{1}{q}

We can that in the two expressions we have the distance to the image, this is the distance where it can be seen clearly in general for a normal person is q = 50 cm

we substitute in the equations

1) f₁ = -50 cm

2)

        \frac{1}{f_2} = \frac{1}{25} + \frac{1}{50}

        \frac{1}{f_2} = 0.06

         f₂ = 16.67 cm

the expression for the power of the lenses is

          P = \frac{1}{f}

where the focal length is in meters

1)       P₁ = 1/0.50

        P₁ = -2 D

2)     P₂ = 1 /0.16667

        P₂ = 6 D

In Europe, gas cost approximately €0.98 per liter. How many dollars($) per gallon is this? using a factor method
bixtya [17]

Answer:

€0.98 per liter = 4.377 doller per gallon

Explanation:

It is given that, In Europe, gas cost approximately €0.98 per liter. We need to convert it into dollars($) per gallon.

We know that, 1 euro = 1.18 United States Dollar

1 litre = 0.264172 US gallon

Cost of gas in Europe is €0.98 per liter.

0.98\ \text{euro/ liter}=\dfrac{0.98\times 1.18\ \text{doller}}{0.264172\ \text{gallon}}\\\\=4.377\ \text{doller/gallon}

Ann walked 1.5 miles south to her house in 0.5 hours. what is Ann's speed? what is Ann's velocity
ipn [44]

To calculate the speed and velocity of the Ann`s we use the formula,

v= \frac{d}{t}

Here, d is distance and t is time and v if we take it with direction then it is called velocity and if we take it without the direction then it is called speed.

Given d=1.5 miles and t=0.5 hours.

Substituting these values in above equation we get

v=\frac{1.5mi }{0.5 h} = 3 mi/h

As Ann walked towards south direction therefore, Ann`s velocity is 3 mi/h south and her speed is 3 mi/h .

A bicyclist, initially at rest, begins pedaling and gaining speed steadily for 4.90s during which she covers 25.0m.
emmasim [6.3K]

The bicyclist accelerates with magnitude <em>a</em> such that

25.0 m = 1/2 <em>a</em> (4.90 s)²

Solve for <em>a</em> :

<em>a</em> = (25.0 m) / (1/2 (4.90 s)²) ≈ 2.08 m/s²

Then her final speed is <em>v</em> such that

<em>v</em> ² - 0² = 2<em>a</em> (25.0 m)

Solve for <em>v</em> :

<em>v</em> = √(2 (2.08 m/s²) / (25.0 m)) ≈ 10.2 m/s

Convert to mph. If you know that 1 m ≈ 3.28 ft, then

(10.2 m/s) • (3.28 ft/m) • (1/5280 mi/ft) • (3600 s/h) ≈ 22.8 mi/h

Which Equation will you use to solve this question (use the chart at the end of the lesson) While skiing, Sam flies down a hill
ozzi

A.Momentum Equation

m = mass = 75 kg

v = velocity = 18 m/s

P = momentum

Using the momentum equation , momentum is given as

P = mv

P = 75 x 18

P = 1350 kgm/s
