A person is standing on and facing the front of a stationary skateboard while holding a construction brick. The mass of the pers

on is 67.0 kg, the mass of the skateboard is 4.10 kg, and the mass of the brick is 2.50 kg. If the person throws the brick forward (in the direction they are facing) with a speed of 23.0 m/s relative to the skateboard and we ignore friction, determine the recoil speed of the person and the skateboard, relative to the ground.

Answer:

    v₁ = -0.8087 m / s

Explanation:

To solve this problem we can use the conservation of momentum, for this we define a system formed by the man, the skateboard and the brick, therefore the force during the separation is internal and the momentum is conserved

Initial instant. When they are united

        p₀ = 0

Final moment. After throwing the brick

        p_{f} = (m_man + m_skate) v1 + m_brick v2

the moment is preserved

        p₀ = p_{f}

        0 = (m_man + m_skate) v₁ + m_brick v₂

        v₁ = -  \frac{ m_{brick}   }{m_{man} + m_{skate}   }  v_{2}

the negative sign indicates that the two speeds are in the opposite direction

let's calculate

        v₁ = - \frac{2.5}{67 + 4.10}  23.0

        v₁ = -0.8087 m / s

1) The object slows down due to kinetic friction.
2) The coefficient of kinetic friction is higher on a carpet than on the bare floor, therefore the object would slow down quicker on the carpet

7. How long does it take a ball rolling down a hill to change its speed from 3 m/sec to 34.5 m/sec
lys-0071 [83]

The time elapsed is 9 seconds

Explanation:

The motion of the ball is a uniformly accelerated motion (a motion with constant acceleration), so we can use the following suvat equation:

v=u+at

where :

v is the final velocity  of the ball

u is the initial velocity

a is the acceleration

t is the time  elapsed

For the ball in this problem, we have:

u = 3 m/s is the initial velocity

v = 34.5 m/s is the final velocity

a=3.5m/s^2 is the acceleration

Solving for t, we find the time taken for this change in velocity:

t=\frac{v-u}{a}=\frac{34.5-3}{3.5}=9 s

A student of mass 40kg takes 10s to run up a flight of 50steps. If each step is 15cm high, calculate the Potential Energy of the
astra-53 [7]

Answer:

2943 J

Explanation:

Potential energy = mass x acceleration due to gravity x height in meters

(P.E. = mgh)

Substitute the given numbers: (I take acceleration due to gravity as 9.81 m s^-2)

PE = 40 x 9.81 x (0.15x50)

PE = 2943 J
