The generic metal a forms an insoluble salt ab(s) and a complex ac5(aq). the equilibrium concentrations in a solution of ac5 wer

e found to be [a] = 0.100 m, [c] = 0.0110 m, and [ac5] = 0.100 m. determine the formation constant, kf, of ac5.

Assuming that the reaction from A and C to AC5 is only one-step (or an elementary reaction) with a balanced chemical reaction of:

A + 5 C  --->  AC5

Therefore the formation constant can be easily calculated using the following formula for formation constant:

Kf = product of products concentrations / product of reactants concentration

Kf = [AC5] / [A] [C]^5

---> Any coefficient from the balanced chemical reaction becomes a power in the formula

Substituting the given values into the equation:

Kf = 0.100 M / (0.100 M) (0.0110 M)^5

Kf = 6,209,213,231

or in simpler terms

Kf = 6.21 * 10^9                  (ANSWER)

Combustion analysis is performed on 0.50 g of a hydrocarbon, and 1.47 g of CO2 and 0.902 g of H2O are produced. What is the empi
JulijaS [17]

1. The empirical formula of the hydrocarbon is CH₃

2. The molecular formula of the hydrocarbon is C₂H₆

How to determine the mass of Carbon

  • Mass of CO₂ = 1.47 g
  • Molar mass of CO₂ = 44 g/mol
  • Molar of C = 12 g/mol
  • Mass of C =?

Mass of C = (12 / 44) × 1.47

Mass of C = 0.4 g

How to determine the mass of H

  • Mass of compound = 0.5 g
  • Mass of C = 0.4 g
  • Mass of H = ?

Mass of H = (mass of compound) – (mass of C)

Mass of H = 0.5 – 0.4

Mass of H =0.1 g

1. How to determine the empirical formula

  • C = 0.4 g
  • H = 0.1 g
  • Empirical formula =?

Divide by their molar mass

C = 0.4 / 12 = 0.03

H = 0.1 / 1 = 0.1

Divide by the smallest

C = 0.03 / 0.03 = 1

H = 0.1 / 0.03 = 3

Thus, the empirical formula of the compound is CH₃

2. How to determine the molecular formula

  • Empirical formula = CH₃
  • Molar mass = 30 g/mol
  • Molecular formula =?

Molecular formula = empirical × n = mass number

[CH₃]n = 30

[12 + (3×1)]n = 30

15n = 30

Divide both side by 15

n = 30 / 15

n = 2

Molecular formula = [CH₃]n

Molecular formula = [CH₃]₂

Molecular formula = C₂H₆

nexus9112 [7]
For the answer to the question above, I can't help you directly because I don't have a calculator right now. But I'll show you how to solve this.
use the freezing point depression formula for this one: delta T = i * m * K where K is a constant, m is the molality (mol solute/kg solvent), and i is the van'hoff factor the van hoff factor is the number of ions that your salt dissociates into. Since it's an ALKALI flouride salt, how many ions? k is just a constant, you get it from a table in your textbook somewhere So you have everything to solve for the molality of the solution, once you did that, multiplying it by the mass of water to find the mols of the salt. Take the mass of the salt and divide by this mols to figure out the molar mass, and then compare it with the periodic table to identify the salt.

Mole solute x mass of Water = Mol solute
kg Solvent

then

Mass of solute x 1 = molar mass
                               mole of solute
