5. (Serway 9th ed., 7-3) In 1990, Walter Arfeuille of Belgium lifted a 281.5-kg object through a distance of 17.1 cm using only

his teeth. (a) How much work was done on the object by Arfeuille in this lift, assuming the object was lifted at constant speed? (b) What total force was exerted on Arfeuille’s teeth during the lift? (Ans. (a) 472 J; (b) 2.76 kN)

Para resolver este problema es necesario aplicar los conceptos de Fuerza, dados en la segunda Ley de Newton y el concepto de Trabajo, como expresión de la fuerza necesaria para realizar una actividad en una distancia determinada.

El trabajo se define como

W = F*d

Where,

F = Force

d = Distance

At the same time we have that the Force by second's Newton law is equal to

F = mg

Where,

m = mass

g = Gravitational acceleration

PART A) Using our values and replacing we have that

W = F*d\\W = mg*d\\W=281.5*9.8(17.1*10^{-2}\\W = 471.738 J\approx 472J

PART B) Using Newton's Second law we have that,

F = mg \\F= 281.5*9.8\\F= 2758.7 N \approx 2.76kN

An 888.0 kg elevator is moving downward with a velocity of 0.800 m/s. It decelerates uniformly and comes to a stop in a distance
bagirrra123 [75]

Answer:

The value of tension on the cable T = 1065.6 N

Explanation:

Mass = 888 kg

Initial velocity ( u )= 0.8 \frac{m}{sec}

Final velocity ( V ) = 0

Distance traveled before come to rest = 0.2667 m

Now use third law of motion V^{2} = u^{2} - 2 a s

Put all the values in above formula we get,

⇒ 0 = 0.8^{2} - 2 × a ×0.2667

⇒ a = 1.2 \frac{m}{sec^{2} }

This is the deceleration of the box.

Tension in the cable is given by T = F = m × a

Put all the values in above formula we get,

T = 888 × 1.2

T = 1065.6 N

This is the value of tension on the cable.

How do rising temperature affect the process of convection
Papessa [141]

<span>Convection is a process of heat transfer between a surface and a moving fluid. It occurs when the air has a lower temperature than the body, and the body transfers heat through contact with the cold air around it. Air heating causes it to rise. The increase in temperature affects the convection process, since as the warm air rises, the cold air takes its place, thus completing its convection cycle. Example: Wind</span>
