Answer:

Earth's atmosphere is a mixture of nitrogen (79%), oxygen (20%), and a small fraction of carbon dioxide, water vapours and other gases. However, the atmospheres on Venus and Mars mainly consist of carbon dioxide.

Calculate the change in the energy of an electron that moves from the n = 3 level to the n = 2 level. What type of light is emit
marissa [1.9K]

Answer:

Red light

Explanation:

The energy emitted during an electron transition in an atom of hydrogen is given by

E=E_0 (\frac{1}{n_2^2}-\frac{1}{n_1^2})

where

E_0 = 13.6 eV is the energy of the lowest level

n1 and n2 are the numbers corresponding to the two levels

Here we have

n1 = 3

n2 = 2

So the energy of the emitted photon is

E=(13.6) (\frac{1}{2^2}-\frac{1}{3^2})=1.9 eV

Converting into Joules,

E=(1.9 eV)(1.6\cdot 10^{-19} J/eV)=3.0\cdot 10^{-19} J

And now we can find the wavelength of the emitted photon by using the equation

E=\frac{hc}{\lambda}

where h is the Planck constant and c is the speed of light. Solving for \lambda,

\lambda=\frac{hc}{E}=\frac{(6.63\cdot 10^{-34})(3\cdot 10^8)}{3.0\cdot 10^{-19}}=6.63\cdot 10^{-7} m = 663 nm

And this wavelength corresponds to red light.

If the frequency of sound is doubled, how will its speed change? how will its wavelength change?
eimsori [14]

From the given equation we can deduce what changes will occur if the frequency of the sound is doubled

V= f (λ)

Speed = frequency. Wavelength

When the frequency is doubled, speed will not change. Because speed depends on factors like temperature, air pressure, density of the gas. Since all these factors are unchanged thus speed will remain unchanged

Frequency is the number of waves produced per second. Frequency and wavelength are inversely proportional .Thus, if the frequency is doubled the wavelength would be halved.

an object has a displacement of + 12 m in 6 seconds if the average velocity is found using the equation change in position / ela
rosijanka [135]

Answer:

+2m/s

Explanation:

average   velocity = displacement traveled / total time taken

                           = +12m/ 6s

                           = +2 m/s

A train accelerates to a velocity of 500 m/s over time of 2s. The acceleration it experienced was 50m/s2. What was its initial v
ValentinkaMS [17]

Explanation:

We know ,

  • v = u + at
  • u = v - at
  • u = 500 - 2*50
  • u = 400 m/s

What is the distance from axis about which a uniform, balsa-wood sphere will have the same moment of inertia as does a thin-wall
andrey2020 [161]

Answer:

D_{s} ≈ 2.1 R

Explanation:

The moment of inertia of the bodies can be calculated by the equation

     I = ∫ r² dm

For bodies with symmetry this tabulated, the moment of inertia of the center of mass

Sphere               Is_{cm} = 2/5 M R²

Spherical shell   Ic_{cm} = 2/3 M R²

The parallel axes theorem allows us to calculate the moment of inertia with respect to different axes, without knowing the moment of inertia of the center of mass

    I = I_{cm} + M D²

Where M is the mass of the body and D is the distance from the center of mass to the axis of rotation

Let's start with the spherical shell, axis is along a diameter

     D = 2R

    Ic = Ic_{cm} + M D²

    Ic = 2/3 MR² + M (2R)²

    Ic = M R² (2/3 + 4)

    Ic = 14/3 M R²

The sphere

    Is =Is_{cm} + M [D_{s}²

    Is = Ic

    2/5 MR² + M D_{s}² = 14/3 MR²

    D_{s}² = R² (14/3 - 2/5)

    D_{s} = √ (R² (64/15)

    D_{s} = 2,066 R
