Chemistry

Answer:

\boxed {\boxed {\sf B. \ Iodine }}

Explanation:

Atomic radius is the measurement from the nucleus to the outer edge of the electron cloud.

As you go down a group (vertically) the atomic radius increases because more electron shells are added. As you go across a period horizontally, the atomic radius decreases.

If we look at the halogens group (17), we see they follow this order from top to bottom:

F - Fluorine

Cl - Chlorine

Br - Bromine

I - Iodine

Since it increases down the group, iodine must have the largest atomic radius.

2. Which of the changes indicated are oxidations
sergeinik [125]

Answer:

A) Oxidized

B) Reduced

C) Oxidized

D) Oxidized

Explanation:

A) Cu becomes Cu²⁺

oxidation state increased from 0 to +2. It gets oxidize.

B) Sn⁺⁴ becomes Sn²⁺

oxidation state decreased from +4 to +2. It gets reduced.

C) Cr³⁺ becomes Cr⁺⁶

oxidation state increased from +3 to +6. It gets oxidize.

D) Ag becomes Ag⁺

oxidation state increased from 0 to +1. It gets oxidize.

Oxidation:

Oxidation involve the removal of electrons and oxidation state of atom of an element is increased.

Reduction:

Reduction involve the gain of electron and oxidation number is decreased.

Consider the following reactions.

4KI + 2CuCl₂ → 2CuI + I₂ + 4KCl

the oxidation state of copper is changed from +2 to +1 so copper get reduced.

CO + H₂O → CO₂ + H₂

the oxidation state of carbon is +2 on reactant side and on product side it becomes +4 so carbon get oxidized.

To construct the galvanic cell illustrated above, the salt bridge was prepared by soaking a piece of cotton in 5.0MNaNO3(aq) bef
dalvyx [7]

Answer:

The cell reaction reaches equilibrium quickly and the cell emf becomes zero.

Explanation:

The purpose of a salt bridge is not to move electrons from the electrolyte, its main function is to maintain charge balance because the electrons are moving from one-half cell to the other.

A solution of a salt that dissociates easily is normally used. Water is ineffective at functioning as a salt bridge. Hence the effect stated in the answer.

Which bonds are formed when elements share electrons and form molecules?.
Nimfa-mama [501]

Answer:

A covalent bond

Explanation:

the atoms bond by sharing electrons. Covalent bonds usually occur between nonmetals. For example, in water (H2O) each hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O) share a pair of electrons to make a molecule of two hydrogen atoms single bonded to a single oxygen atom.

A student does not observe a change when holding a test tube in a flame. However, a change is expected. What is the most likely
dalvyx [7]

The answer is: The reactants were not heated long enough.

For all chemical reaction some energy is required and that energy is called activation energy (energy that needs to be absorbed for a chemical reaction to start).

Activation energy is the minimum energy colliding particles must have in order to react.

By lowering activation energy, reaction need less heat.

In this example, there is not enough heat.
