If kinetic energy increases does pressure decrease?
enyata [817]

If molecules are in a closed container then we expect the pressure to increase as the kinetic energy increases. This is because the atoms of an element collide with the walls of the container and increase the pressure.

If we use the formula PV=nRT, where P is the pressure, V is the volume, n is the number of moles, R the ideal gas constant and T is the temperature.  According to the formula, P is directly proportional to temperature. An increase in temperature leads to an increase in pressure.

Since we know that temperature is the average kinetic energy of molecules present. It means as we increase the temperature we increase the kinetic energy of the molecules which in turn leads to an increase in the pressure.

A student wants to remove the salt from a mixture of sand and salt in order to get only pure sand. He adds water to the mixture.
raketka [301]

Answer:

Here is one way: Add water to the mixture. Only the sugar dissolves. This is a physical change.

Explanation:

The sugar would dissolve in water. You could then pour off the solution and wash the remaining sand with a bit more water. Heat the water to evaporate it from the sugar, and the two are separated.

Select the compound with the lowest lattice energy.
tatyana61 [14]

Answer:

A. CsBr(s)

Explanation:

we will get here compound with the lowest lattice energy

solution

As we know that Lattice energy is always proportional to the charge of ions and it is inversely proportional to the size of ions.

so that by the smallest charge and the largest size give us the lowest lattice energy and that charge and size is express as here as

Charge

Cs (+1), K(+1), Na (+1), Cl(-1), Br(-1), Sr(+2), Ca(+2), O(-2)     .......................1

and

Size

Na+ < Ca2+ < K+ < Sr2+ < Cs+, O2- < Cl- < Br-                ..........................2

so that here

correct answer is A. CsBr
