A 160 g basketball has a 32.7 cm diameter and may be approximated as a thin spherical shell. Starting from rest, how long will i

t take a basketball to roll without slipping 3.16 m down an incline that makes an angle of 27◦ with the horizontal? The moment of inertia of a thin spherical shell of radius R and mass m is I = 2 3 m R2 , the acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 m/s 2 , and the coefficient of friction is 0.3 . Answer in units of s.

Answer:

   t = 0.24 s

Explanation:

As seen in the attached diagram, we are going to use dynamics to resolve the problem, so we will be using the equations for the translation and the rotation dyamics:

Translation:  ΣF = ma

Rotation: ΣM = Iα ; where α = angular acceleration

Because the angular acceleration is equal to the linear acceleration divided by the radius, the rotation equation also can be represented like:

                    ΣM = I(a/R)

Now we are going to resolve and combine these equations.

For translation: Fx - Ffr = ma

We know that Fx = mgSin27°, so we substitute:

         (1)                 mgSin27° - Ffr = ma

For rotation:         (Ffr)(R) = (2/3mR²)(a/R)

The radius cancel each other:

        (2)                Ffr = 2/3 ma

We substitute equation (2) in equation (1):

                            mgSin27° - 2/3 ma = ma

                            mgSin27° = ma + 2/3 ma

The mass gets cancelled:

                            gSin27° = 5/3 a

                            a = (3/5)(gSin27°)

                            a = (3/5)(9.8 m/s²(Sin27°))

                            a = 2.67 m/s²

If we assume that the acceleration is a constant we can use the next equation to find the velocity:

                           V = √2ad; where  d = 0.327m

                           V = √2(2.67 m/s²)(0.327m)

                            V = 1.32 m/s

Because V = d/t

                             t = d/V

                             t = 0.327m/1.32 m/s

                             t = 0.24 s

What speed would a fly with a mass of 0.55g need in order to have a kinetic energy of 7.6 •10^4 j?
masya89 [10]

Answer:

16613 m/s

Explanation:

Given that

mass of the fly, m = 0.55 g = 0.55*10^-3 kg

Kinetic Energy of the fly, E = 7.6*10^4 J

Speed of the fly, v = ? m/s

We know that the Kinetic Energy is that energy that an object, in this case, the fly, possesses due to its motion.

The Kinetic Energy, KE of any object is represented by the formula

KE = 1/2 * m * v²

If we substitute the values in the relation, we have,

7.6*10^4 = 1/2 * 0.55*10^-3 * v²

v² = (15.2*10^4) / 0.55*10^-3

v² = 2.76*10^8

v = √2.76*10^8

v = 16613 m/s

Thus, the fly would need a speed of 16.6 km/s in order to have a Kinetic Energy of 7.6*10^4 J

The engine in an imaginary sports car can provide constant power to the wheels over a range of speeds from 0 to 70 miles per hou
puteri [66]

Answer:

t=5.3687\ s is the time taken by the car to accelerate the desired range of the speed from zero at full power.

Explanation:

Given:

Range of speed during which constant power is supplied to the wheels by the car is 0\ mph\ to\ 70\ mph.

  • Initial velocity of the car, v_i=0\ mph
  • final velocity of the car during the test, v_f=32\ mph=14.3052\ m.s^{-1}
  • Time taken to accelerate form zero to 32 mph at full power, t=1.2\ s
  • initial velocity of the car, u_i=0\ mph
  • final desired velocity of the car, u_f=64\ mph=28.6105\ m.s^{-1}

Now the acceleration of the car:

a=\frac{v_f-v_i}{t}

a=\frac{14.3052-0}{1.2}

a=11.921\ m.s^{-1}

Now using the equation of motion:

u_f=u_i+a.t

64=0+11.921\times t

t=5.3687\ s is the time taken by the car to accelerate the desired range of the speed from zero at full power.

Which of the following is true about a planet orbiting a star in uniform circular
Mnenie [13.5K]

The velocity vector of the planet points toward the center of the circle is the following is true about a planet orbiting a star in uniform circular motion.

A. The velocity vector of the planet points toward the center of the circle.

Explanation:

Motion of the planet around the star is mentioned to be uniform and around a circular path. Objects in uniform circular motion motion has constant angular speed but the velocity of the object will not remain constant. Since the planet is in circular motion the direction of velocity vector at a particular point is tangential to the circular path at that particular point.

Thus at every point, the direction of velocity vector changes and this means the velocity is never constant. The objects in uniform circular motion has centripetal acceleration which means that velocity vector of the planet points toward the center of the circle.
