An air-filled capacitor stores a potential energy of 6 mJ due to its charge. It is accidentally filled with water in such a way

as not to discharge its plates. How much energy does it continue to store after it is filled? (The dielectric constant for water is 78 and for air it is 1.0006.

Answer:

The potential energy in the water will be 0.0769 mJ

Explanation:

We know that energy stored in the capacitor due to charge is given by U=\frac{Q^2}{2C}

From the relation we can see that potential energy is inversely proportional to the capacitance

And we also know that capacitance is directly proportional to the dielectric constant

So the new potential energy will be =\frac{6}{78}=0.0769mJ

So the potential energy in the water will be 0.0769 mJ

Answer:

Water breaking down into hydrogen and oxygen is a decomposition reaction

Hydrogen and oxygen combining to form water is a synthesis reaction

Explanation:

A decomposition reaction is a chemical reaction that involves the breakdown of a chemical reactant entity into two or more simpler product fragments

Water H₂O undergoes a decomposition reaction by breaking down into hydrogen, H₂,, and oxygen, O₂, as follows;

2H₂O (l) → 2H₂ (g) + O₂ (g)

A synthesis reaction is a reaction that involves the chemical combination of two or more dissimilar molecules or atoms to produce a different compound or molecule

Water, H₂O, is formed by a synthesis reaction of hydrogen, H₂,, and oxygen, O₂, combining as follows;

2H₂ + O₂  → 2H₂O

Chanice drives her scooter 7 kilometers north. she stops for lunch and then drives 5 kilometers and then 1 km east again. what d
lord [1]

Distance covered is given as follows

1). 7 km North

2). 5 km North

3). 1 km East

Now total distance covered will be given as

d = d_1 + d_2 + d_3

d = 7 km + 5 km + 1 km

d = 13 km

Now in order to find the displacement we will show all with their directions

\vec d_1 = 7 + 5 = 12 km towards North

\vec d_2 = 1 km towards East

So total displacement is

\vec d = \vec d_1 + \vec d_2

\vec d = 12 \hat j + 1 \hat i

so net displacement will be

d = \sqrt{12^2 + 1^2} = 12.04 km

so displacement is 12.04 km
