On a planimetric map, the _____ is used to determine the actual distance between two points.
lawyer [7]

<span>The answer in this question is scale. The scale is used to determine the actual distance between two points in a planimetric map. This map only represents the horizontal position of features. This is also called by others as the line map.  This is usually consisted of man-made and natural features. These are from aerial shots by the use of modern technology. This map’s common features are street and water centerlines, sidewalks, culverts, utility lines, building footprints and vegetation. Sometimes, there are also other useful data attached in this map like titles of the properties, owner, assessed value, etc. It is because of these, this map becomes a storage of valuable data which can be easily and quickly accessed. </span>

How much GPE is stored when an 80kg astronaut climbs to the top of a 5m high lunar lander? The gravity strength on the moon is 1
8_murik_8 [283]

Answer:

The GPE, stored is 640 Joules

Explanation:

The given parameters are;

The given mass of the astronaut, m = 80 kg

The height of the top of the lunar lander to which the astronaut climbs, h = 5 m

The gravity strength on the moon, g = 1.6 N/kg

The Gravitational Potential Energy, GPE, stored is given according to the following equation;

GPE stored = m·g·h

Therefore, by substituting the known values, we have;

GPE Stored = 80 kg × 1.6 N/kg × 5 m = 640 Joules

The GPE, stored = 640 Joules.

An airplane dropped a flare from a height of 2860 feet above a lake. How many seconds did it take for the flare to reach the wat
KATRIN_1 [288]

Answer: 13.2 seconds.

Explanation: using equation of motion; S= ut +1/2at² where u = initial velocity=0

S= distance travelled

a = acceleration due gravity

t= time.

1 foot = 0.305m so,

S= 2860 feet =872.3m

S= ut+1/2 at²

872.3 = 0×t + 1/2×10 × t²

872.3 =0 + 5t²

T²= 872.3/5

T²= 174.46

Take the square root of T we then have;

t = 13.2 seconds to one decimal place.

A rectangular key was used in a pulley connected to a line shaft with a power of 7.46 kW at a speed of 1200 rpm. If the shearing
Damm [24]

Given:

Shaft Power, P = 7.46 kW = 7460 W

Speed, N = 1200 rpm

Shearing stress of shaft, \tau _{shaft} = 30 MPa

Shearing stress of key, \tau _{key} = 240 MPa

width of key, w = \frac{d}{4}

d is shaft diameter

Solution:

Torque, T = \frac{P}{\omega }

where,

\omega = \frac{2\pi  N}{60}

T = \frac{7460}{\frac{2\pi  (1200 )}{60}} = 59.365 N-m

Now,

\tau _{shaft} = \tau _{max} = \frac{2T}{\pi (\frac{d}{2})^{3}}

30\times 10^{6} = \frac{2\times 59.365}{\pi (\frac{d}{2})^{3}}

d = 0.0216 m

Now,

w =  \frac{d}{4} =  \frac{0.02116}{4} = 5.4 mm

Now, for shear stress in key

\tau _{key} = \frac{F}{wl}

we know that

T = F \times r =  F. \frac{d}{2}

⇒ \tau _{key} = \frac{\frac{T}{\frac{d}{2}}}{wl}

⇒ 240\times 10^{6} = \frac{\frac{59.365}{\frac{0.0216}{2}}}{0.054l}

length of the rectangular key, l = 4.078 mm
