Water, H2O, is made up of different elements, hydrogen and oxygen. Is this type of combination a mixture or a pure substance? A)

Because water is composed of two separate elements, it is a mixture. B) Because water can be heated and fairly easily turned to steam, it is a mixture. C) Because water is composed of elements found in the periodic table, it is a pure substance. D) Because water molecules all have a consistent ratio of hydrogen to oxygen, it is a pure substance. E

A pure substance is a substance with a consistent ration of the elements that make it up. This means that there is no way to tell one water molecule apart from the other. The atoms in a pure compound contain atoms bonded in the same way throughout the compound.

On the other hand, a mixture  has constituents that have different pure substances mixed together. The constituents of a mixture are easy to distinguish from each other.

With these definitions in mind, we can easily see that water is a pure sustenance because water molecules all have a consistent ratio of hydrogen to oxygen atoms.

The correct answer for this question is D)Because water molecules all have a consistent ratio of hydrogen to oxygen, it is a pure substance.

Calculate the gravitational attraction between two objects which masses are: mass A: 2.5kg, mass B: 5kg. The distance between th
jonny [76]

From the calculation, the gravitational force of attraction is  1.33 * 10^-14 N.

<h3>What is the gravitational force?</h3>

The gravitational force is an attractive force that acts between any two masses.

It is given by;

F = Gm1m2/r^2

F = 6.67 * × 10−11 * 2.5 * 5/(250)^2

F  = 83.4  × 10−11 /62500

F= 1.33 * 10^-14 N

The force between the two objects is 19.73 nN.

<u>Explanation: </u>

Any force acting between two objects tends to be directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the two objects. And this kind of attraction force between two objects is termed as gravitational force.

So if we consider M_{1} and M_{2} as the masses of both objects and let d be the distance of separation of two objects. Then the force between the two objects can be determined as below:

                      \text {Gravitational force}=\frac{G \times M_{1} \times M_{2}}{d^{2}}

As gravitational constant G=6.67 \times 10^{-11} \mathrm{m}^{3} \mathrm{kg}^{-1} \mathrm{s}^{-2}, M_{1} = 20 kg and  M_{2} = 100 kg, while d = 2.6 m, then

                    \text {Gravitational force}=\frac{6.67 \times 10^{-11} \times 20 \times 100}{(2.6)^{2}}=\frac{6.67 \times 20 \times 10^{-9}}{6.76}

Thus, we get finally,

                   \text {Gravitational force}=19.73 \times 10^{-9} \mathrm{N}

As we know, nano denoted by letter 'n' equals to 10^{-9}

So the force acting between two objects is 19.73 nN.
