Here, we are asked to calculate the total distance and displacement for three different times.

Before solving the question, first we have to understand the distance and displacement.

Displacement is the minimum distance travelled between two points. Hence, it is a vector quantity. On the other hand, the distance travelled is a scalar quantity.

The total displacement will be calculated by vector addition while total distance will follow algebraic addition.

Let us consider Ram travelled 3 km towards north from his home to office in 1 hour. The highway is straight. He reached at his office and saw that his office was closed. So, he came back. He stopped at shop for 2 minutes which was 2 km away from his office. Then he started his journey and reached him home.

Let his first distance travelled from home to office is s_{1} =\ 3\ km

Here, the displacement is also the same in magnitude with distance travelled and it is directed towards north.

The distance travelled by Ram from office to the shop s_{2} =2\ km

Here, the displacement is 2 km towards south.

The distance travelled by Ram from the shop to the office s_{3} =\ 1 \ k m

Here, the displacement is 1 km towards south.

Here, the total distance travelled  [s]\ =\ s_{1} +s_{2} +s_{3}

                                                                =3\ km+2\ km+1\ km

                                                                =6\ km

Now we have to calculate the total displacement. Here, the total displacement is zero.

It is because the initial and final points of his journey is same.

Answer:

7. 1.56

8. A curved line that slopes upward

Explanation:

7. The curve for quartz at the left side of the graph (400 nm) is just above the middle of the distance between 1.5 and 1.6, so is best approximated by 1.56.

___

8. The graph shows n vs. wavelength. The question asks about n vs. frequency. Frequency is inversely proportional to wavelengh, which means you need to describe the curve from right to left, rather than left to right. From right to left, the curve rises, so can be called "a curved line that slopes upward."

A box of mass m = 1.80 kg is dropped from rest onto a massless, vertical spring with spring constant k = 2.00 ✕ 102 N/m that is
Rudik [331]

Answer:

spring compressed is 0.724 m

Explanation:

given data

mass = 1.80 kg

spring constant k = 2 × 10²  N/m

initial height = 2.25 m

solution

we know from conservation of energy is

mg(h+x)  = 0.5 × k × x²       ...................1

here x is compression in spring

so put here value in equation 1 we get

1.8 × 9.8 × (2.25+x)  = 0.5 × 2× 10² × x²

solve it we get

x = 0.724344

so spring compressed is 0.724 m
