Whenever a substance changes its state, the level of intermolecular interactions is changed. As substances transition from solid, to liquid to gas, the intermolecular transactions decrease, meaning that the energy of the molecules is greater in the case of gases than it is for solids. This energy is the reason they are able to overcome intermolecular interactions. Now, when we transition from a high energy state of matter, such as gas, to a state with lower energy, such as a liquid or solid, energy is released. In the cases of boiling, melting and sublimation (conversion of solid to gas), the substance is transitioning to a higher energy state.
Therefore, C. condensation releases energy as it is the transition from gas to liquid.

How many atoms are in 165 g of calcium?
Whitepunk [10]
Atomic mass Calcium = 40.078 a.m.u

40.078 g ---------------- 6.02x10²³ atoms
165 g -------------------- ??

165 x ( 6.02x10²³) / 40.078 => 2.47x10²⁴ atoms

hope this helps!

Why does the temperature of the water stay the same when it melts and boils?
krok68 [10]

The temperature stays the same when a solid changes to a liquid because energy is required to break the forces between particles of water therefore changing the state of matter and separating the particles away from each other.

When a liquid boils, the energy is needed by the particles to escape the surface of the liquid and boil. Instead of raising the temperature, the energy goes into the particles' kinetic energy store so it has enough speed to escape the surface of the liquid.

500.0 mL of a gas is collected at 745.0 mm Hg. what what will the volume be at standard pressure
Irina-Kira [14]
This is an application of Boyle's law:
P₁V₁ = P₂V₂. we don't have to convert volume and pressure to standard forms. we can even use the pressure with mmHg
1 atm = 760 mmHg
V₂ = P₁V₁ / P₂ = 745 x 500 / 760 = 490 ml
Note that here we assume constant temperature

Help!!! chemistry electrolysis
Tpy6a [65]
Electrolysis can be used to separate a substance into its original components/elements and it was through this process that a number of elements have been discovered and are still produced in today's industry.
