Answer:

(a) Enantiomers

(b) Diastereomers

Explanation:

In the first pair of molecules, we have an opposite configuration. That is, in the first molecule we have an R and S configuration and in the second an S and R configuration. Therefore we have a <u>mirror image</u>, if this is true, we will have a mirror image and we will have "<u>enantiomers"</u>. (See figure 1)

In the second pair of molecules, <u>we do not have a mirror image</u>. Since the first molecule has an R, S configuration (the mirror image would be S, R). In the second molecule, we have an R, R configuration (the mirror image would be S, S). Therefore, the relationship between these molecules is <u>"diastereoisomers"</u>. (See figure 2)

A 1.00 x 10^-10 M solution of chloric acid Please help me solve this to find pH and pOH
Svetradugi [14.3K]

Answer: The pH of solution is 10.

The pOH of the solution is 4.

Explanation:

pH is the negative logarithm of concentration of hydrogen ion.

As given concentration of acidic solution is 1.00 \times 10^{-10} M. Therefore, pH of the solution is calculated as follows.

pH = -log [H^{+}]\\= -log (1.00 \times 10^{-10})\\= 10

The relation between pH and pOH is as follows.

pH + pOH = 14

pOH = 14 - pH

= 14 - 10

= 4

Thus, we an conclude that pH of solution is 10 and pOH of the solution is 4.

Balance the equation: "Sodium oxide reacts with water to form sodium hydroxide and hydrogen." I can't find the correct coefficie
dedylja [7]

Answer:

So, sodium oxide + water = sodium hydroxide + hydrogen is written Na2O+H2O-->NaOH+H.

To balance the equation it should read NaO+H2O-->2NaOH

Explanation:

Na2O+H2O-->2NaOH+0H2.......the 0H2 is dropped because there is no value

Which of the following best helps to account for the fact that the F- ion is smaller than the O2- ion?
katrin [286]

Answer: Option (B) is the correct answer.

Explanation:

Both oxygen and fluorine are period 2 elements and when we move across a period then there occurs a decrease in atomic size of the atoms. Hence, the atomic radius of a neutral fluorine atom is smaller than a neutral oxygen atom.

Moreover, atomic number of fluorine is 9 and it has higher nuclear charge due to which it will cause more attraction of electrons. As a result, size of a fluorine ion will be smaller.

On the other hand, size of oxygen atom is larger and has small nuclear charge due to which attraction of electrons by its nucleus will not be strong enough. Hence, the size of O^{2-} will be larger.

Thus, we can conclude that the statement F^{-} has a larger nuclear charge than O^{2-} has, is correct for the fact that the F^{-} ion is smaller than the O^{2-} ion.
