What property of matter best describes the way a typical alcohol thermometer works?

Answer:

 • thermal expansion

Explanation:

Matter expands when heated.

Matter is composed of particles (atoms, molecules or ions) which ocuppy a space.

At lower temperatures, matter has low kinetic energy, so the particles vibrate and or translate with low speed. When the matter is heated, the kinetic energy of the particles increases, meaning that they will vibrate and move faster.

When the particles vibrate and move faster they will occupy more space, which explains the thermal expansion.

So, at start the alcohol thermometer will be in thermal equilibrium with the surroundings (same temperature). The alcohol will occupy a certain volume inside the thermometer, which corresponds to a level mark (altitude of the alcohol inside the thermometer)

If the thermometer gets in contact with a colder substance, the walls of the thermometer will transfer heat to the colder substance, and the alcohol inside the thermometer will transfer heat to the walls of the thermometer. As result, the alcohol will lose kinetic energy and it will occupy less volume, which will cause that its level inside the thermometer fall.

On the other hand, if the thermometer gets in contact with a warmer substance, the heat will flow from the warmer substance to the alcohol inside the thermometer, the particles of alcohol will vibrate and move faster, its volume will increase and, being as it is contained inside the walls of the thermometer, its level will rise.

Atoms have a tendency to complete their outer energy level. This is known as _____.
Alina [70]

Answer : Option C) The Octet Rule

Explanation : Atoms have a tendency to complete their outer energy level. This is known as Octet Rule.

The octet rule is a chemical rule of thumb which reflects the observation, that atoms of main-group elements tends to combine in such a way that each atom gets eight electrons in its valence shell, which gives it the same electron configuration as that of a noble gas.

In short, the tendency of an atom to fill its valence shell and attain a stable state it acquires or donates the electron is called as octet rule.

Las sustancias ionicas y los metale sson electricamente neutros. ¿como es esto posible si estan formados por iones, que posen ca
Anton [14]

Answer:

ver explicacion

Explanation:

a chemist adds of a calcium bromide solution to a reaction flask. calculate the mass in grams of calcium bromide the chemist has
mestny [16]

The mass of Calcium bromide added in the flask is 29.7 g.

What is Molarity?

Molarity is defined as the ratio of number of moles od solute to the number of volume of solution in litres.

Molarity = number of moles/ volume

Calculation of Moles

Number of moles = Molarity × volume

Given,

Molarity of Calcium bromide = 0.363 M

Volume of Calcium bromide = 410 mL

= 0.410L

By substituting all the value, we get

Number of moles = 0.363 × 0.410

= 0.148 mol

As we know that,

Molar mass of Calcium bromide = 199.89 g

What is Mole?

Mole is defined as the given mass of substance to the molar mass of substance.

Given mass = Moles × Molar mass

= 0.148 × 199.89

= 29.75 g

= 29.7 g (significant digit)

Thus, we calculated that the mass of Calcium bromide added in the flask is 29.7 g.
