Explain briefly why the intensity reflected off the back surface of the film (i.e., the right surface, where there is a liquid-t

o-air interface) is 2.78% of the intensity of the beam that was transmitted through the front surface.

Explanation:

Taking the incident light to be traveling in the + x-direction so that it is at normal incidence to the left side of the film(referred to as the "Front side"). This means the beam transmitted into the liquid is essentially as strong as the incident beam.

Almost all the light that is reflected off the back surface will get through the front surface. (But only 2.78% gets re-reflected off the the front surface back to the right) this means that there are two beams reflected to the - x-direction, one from the front surface and one from the back, and these beams are of almost equal intensity.

Hope this is helpful. Thanks

Determine the required height h of the roller coaster so that when it is essentially at rest at the crest of the hill A it will
Dmitriy789 [7]

Answer:

a) 39.37 m

b) 26.25 m

Explanation:

Given

speed of the roller coaster, v = 100 km/h = 100 * (1000/3600) m/s = 27.78 m/s

Using the law of conservation of energy.

Potential Energy = Kinetic Energy

mgh = 1/2mv²

gh = 1/2v²

h = v²/2g

h = 27.78² / 2 * 9.8

h = 771.7284 / 19.6

h = 39.37 m

Also,

kmg - mg = mv²/p

kg - g = v²/p

p = v²/g(k - 1)

p = 27.78² / 9.8(4 - 1)

p = 771.7284 / 29.4

p = 26.25 m

Therefore, the height of the roller coaster is 39.37 m and the radius of curvature required is 26.25 m

Using a radar gun, you emit radar waves at a frequency of 6.2 GHz that bounce off of a moving tennis ball and recombine with the
Keith_Richards [23]

Answer:

23.4 m/s

Explanation:

f = actual frequency of the wave = 6.2 x 10⁹ Hz

f_{app} = frequency observed as the ball approach the radar

f_{rec} = frequency observed as the ball recede away from the radar

V = speed of light

v = speed of ball

B = beat frequency = 969 Hz

frequency observed as the ball approach the radar is given as

f_{app}=\frac{f(V+v)}{V}                                 eq-1

frequency observed as the ball recede the radar is given as

f_{rec}=\frac{f(V-v)}{V}                                  eq-2

Beat frequency is given as

B = f_{app} - f_{rec}

Using eq-2 and eq-1

B = \frac{f(V+v)}{V}- \frac{f(V-v)}{V}

inserting the values

969 = \frac{(6.2\times 10^{9})((3\times 10^{8})+v)}{(3\times 10^{8})}- \frac{(6.2\times 10^{9})((3\times 10^{8})-v)}{(3\times 10^{8})}

v = 23.4 m/s

A motorcycle has a mass of 250kg. It goes around a 13.7 m radius turn at 96.5 km/hr. What is the centripetal force?
topjm [15]

Answer: c) 1.31 × 10⁴N

Explanation:

Centripetal force is a force that causes a body to move in a circular path. The body possesses a centripetal acceleration.

According to newtons first law

Force = mass (m) ×acceleration (a)

Acceleration of a body moving in a circular path = v²/r where;

v is the velocity and r is the radius

Force = MV²/r

Given m = 250kg v = 96.5km/hr r = 13.7m

We need to convert 96.5km/hr to m/s

= 96.5km ×1000/1hr × 3600

= 96,500/3,600

v = 26.8m/s

Force = 250 × 26.8²/13.7

Force = 13,106.5N

The centripetal force = 13,106.5N

= 1.31 × 10⁴N

A small sculpture made of brass (rho brass = 8470 kg/m 3 ) is believed to have a secret central cavity. The weight of the sculpt
GaryK [48]

Answer:

Volume of secret cavity = 4 x 10⁻⁶m³

Explanation:

The weight of the sculpture in air is 15.76 N

Mass of the sculpture = 1.61 kg

Mass = Volume x Density

1.61 = V x 8470

Volume of brass =1.90 x 10⁻⁴ m³

When it is submerged in water, the weight is 13.86 N.

That is

  Weight of sculpture - Weight of water displaced = 13.86 N

  15.76 - Weight of water displaced = 13.86

   Weight of water displaced = 1.9 N

   Mass of water displaced = 0.194 kg

 Mass = Volume x Density

  0.194 = V x 1000

  Volume of water displaced =1.94 x 10⁻⁴ m³

Volume of secret cavity =  Volume of water displaced - Volume of brass material

Volume of secret cavity = 1.94 x 10⁻⁴-1.94 x 10⁻⁴ = 0.04x 10⁻⁴ = 4 x 10⁻⁶m³

Match each type of wave to the way it moves.
OverLord2011 [107]

Answer:

Transverse wave- Back and forth at right angles to the direction of the wave arrow.

longitudinal wave- bask and forth in the direction of the motion of the motion of the wave.

electromagnetic wave- two alternating waves moving at right angles to each other.

Explanation:

In a longitudinal wave, the particles vibrate at right angles in reference to the wave motion.

In a transverse wave, the particles vibrate parallel to the wave motion

Electromagnetic waves occur as a result of the interaction between two  waves and are normally transverse in nature.
