Compare and contrast diffusion and osmosis. Include at least one similarity and one difference between the two processes.
Softa [21]
Osmosis is the diffusion of water across a semipermeable membrane (usually cell membrane) from a region of low solute concentration to a more concentrated solution so it can reach equilibrium (balance).

Diffusion is a spontaneous movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.

Both results in particles moving and help balance out the concentrations.
Also, in osmosis, the water molecules are moving. In diffusion, it is the solutes moving.

I hope this helps and explains well.

Anna stated that ionic compounds have high melting points and low boiling points. She said that this demonstrates that ionic com
liubo4ka [24]

Answer: Anna stated that ionic compounds have high melting point and low boiling point. The error in the statement is that ionic compound have low boiling point, instead ionic compounds have high boiling point, because in an ionic compound, the force of attraction working between two ions is very strong and hence the bonds present are very strong, and a lot of energy is needed to break them

A glass flask whose volume is 1000 cm3 at a temperature of 0.800 C is completely filled with mercury at the same temperature. Wh
ira [324]

Answer: the coefficient of volume expansion of glass = 0.86/(1000 * 52) = 0.00001654 per degree.

Explanation:

Original volume of mercury = 1000 cm3.

The final volume of mercury considering its volume expansion quotient = 1000 + 1000*(1.8*10^-4 *52) = 1000 + 9.36 = 1009.36 cm^3

Considering the glass as a non expanding substance, the complete excess volume of 9.36 cm3 of mercury should have overflown the container, but due to the expansion of glass, the capacity of mercury containment increases and so a lesser amount of mercury flows out.

The amount of mercury that actually flowed out = 8.50 cm3.

So, the expansion of the glass container = 9.36-8.50 = 0.86 cm3.

Using the formula for coefficient of expansion,

coefficient of volume expansion of glass = 0.86/(1000 * 52) = 0.00001654 per degree.

Justin mixed two clear liquids together during an experiment and made the following observations:
svp [43]

Answer:

B. A chemical change occurred which caused the liquid's physical properties to change.

Explanation:

The reduction of the temperature of the system meant that the reaction absorbed heat energy from it. This shows that a chemical reaction was in progress. New products were formed, and this is proved by the change in the color to blue.
