Answer:

B. 13.7 mm

Explanation:

by similarity of rectangular triangles, we have:

(1) Δ ABC and Δ AB'C'

∴ AB/AB' = AC/AC'

∴ hypotenuse (AB)² = AC² + BC².....Pythagorean theorem

⇒ AB² = (51 mm)² + (13 mm)²

⇒ AB² = 2770 mm²

⇒ AB = 52.63 mm

(2) Δ AB'C' :

∴ hypotenuse (AB')² = AC'² + B'C'²

∴ B'C' = 3.5 mm

from (1):

⇒ AB' = (AB)(AC') / AC = (52.63)(AC') / (51 mm)

⇒ AB' = 1.032AC'.......(3)

(3) in (2):

⇒ (1.032AC')² = AC'² + (3.5)²

⇒1.065AC'² = AC'² + 12.25

⇒ 0.065AC'² = 12.25

⇒ AC'² = 188.462

⇒ AC' = √188.462

⇒ AC' = 13.72 mm

Which substance has two neutrons?

A. H-2

B. He-2

C. He-3

D. He-4
Feliz [49]

Answer:

D

Explanation:

In a Helium (He) atom, the atomic structure of the atom has 2 protons, 2 electrons and 2 neutrons. For an element X to be a Helium (He) atom, it must possess 2 protons. The number of neutrons present will determine its stability either if its probably radioactive or a natural occurring inert gas.

In option 1,

We have H-2. The symbol "H" is used to denote the element hydrogen in the periodic table and hydrogen has only 1 protons and 1 neutron making its mass number 2.

Option 2,

He -2 : here in this option, we have a helium atom, but with mass number of 2 only. Judging from the formula of mass number = protons + neutrons, we already have proton as 2, hence the number of neutrons there is zero (0)

Option 3,

He - 3 : just like in option 2, the only difference here is that the mass number is 3 hence making the number of neutrons just 1.

Option 4,

He - 4 : This option met the requirements of having 2 protons and 2 neutrons making a total of 4 which corresponds to the mass number.

When molten sulfur reacts with chlorine gas, a vile-smelling orange liquid forms that has an empirical formula of SCl. The struc
egoroff_w [7]

Answer:

The structure is shown below.

Explanation:

The formal charge (FC) is the charge that is more close to the actual charge in the real molecules and ions. It can be calculated based on the number of valence electrons (V), the shared electrons (S) and the electrons in the lone pairs (L) by the equation:

FC = V - (L + S/2)

Sulfur is in group 16 of the periodic table, so it has 6 valence electrons, and chlorine is from group 17 of the periodic table, and so it has 7 valence electrons. Chlorine can share only one electron, so it is stable. Sulfur can expand its octet (because it's from the third period) and can have more than 8 electrons when stable.

The possible formulas, from the empiric one, are:

SCl, S₂Cl₂, and S₃Cl₃.

To have FC = 0, chlorine must done only one bond, because S = 2, and L = 6, so:

FC = 7 - (6 + 2/2) = 0

So, it can not be the central atom of a structure. In the SCl, it will hav only a simple bond, so for sulfur, S = 2, and L = 4 (only the lone pairs are counted)

FC = 6 - (4+ 2/2) = +1

For S₂Cl₂, the two sulfurs must be bonded to a simple bond, and each one to one chlorine, thus, for both od them S = 4, and L = 4. so

FC = 6 - (4 + 4/2) = 0

So, it is the correct structure. The lewis structure represents the bonds by lines and the lone pairs of electrons by dots, and it is shown below.

The air you breathe is made of 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen. The oxygen in air is the _____ and the nitrogen is the _____.
Flura [38]
Here are the answers that would best complete the given statement above. The air you breathe is made of 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen. The oxygen in air is the SOLUTE and the nitrogen is the SOLVENT. In a given mixture, the reagent having the highest percentage of amount is always the solvent and the one or ones having the lower percentages are the solutes. Hope this answer helps.
