A boiler is used to heat steam at a brewery to be used in various applications such as heating water to brew the beer and saniti

zing the brewing tanks. 90.0% of the heat produced by the boiler is used to create saturated steam at 6.0 bars (absolute) from liquid water at 18° C. If 115 m3/h of steam is needed, what rate of heat does the boiler output?

Answer:

net boiler heat = 301.94 kW

Explanation:

given data

saturated steam = 6.0 bars

temperature = 18°C

flow rate = 115 m³/h = 0.03194 m³/s

heat use by boiler = 90 %

to find out

rate of heat does the boiler output

solution

we can say saturated steam is produce at 6 bar from liquid water 18°C

we know at 6 bar from steam table

hg = 2756 kJ/kg

and

enthalpy of water at 18°C

hf = 75.64 kJ/kg

so heat required for 1 kg is

=hg - hf

= 2680.36 kJ/kg

and

from steam table specific volume of saturated steam at 6 bar is 0.315 m³/kg

so here mass flow rate is

mass flow rate = \frac{0.03194}{0.315}

mass flow rate m = 0.10139 kg/s

so heat required is

H = h × m

here h is heat required and m is mass flow rate

H = 2680.36  × 0.10139

H =  271.75 kJ/s = 271.75 kW

now 90 % of boiler heat is used for generate saturated stream

so net boiler heat = \frac{H}{0.90}

net boiler heat = \frac{271.75}{0.90}

net boiler heat = 301.94 kW

Water flows through a nozzle at the end of a fire hose. If the nozzle exit velocity must be 20 m/s and the exit diameter is 40 m
lara31 [8.8K]

Answer:

minimum flow rate provided by pump is 0.02513 m^3/s

Explanation:

Given data:

Exit velocity of nozzle = 20m/s

Exit diameter = 40 mm

We know that flow rate Q is given as

Q = A \times V

where A is Area

A =\frac{\pi}{4} \times (40\times 10^{-3})^2 = 1.256\times 10^{-3} m^2

Q = 1.256\times 10^{-3} \times 20 = 0.02513 m^3/s

minimum flow rate provided by pump is 0.02513 m^3/s

A stream leaving a sewage pond (containing 80 mg/L of sewage) moves as a plug with a velocity of 40 m/hr. A concentration of 50
Leno4ka [110]

Answer:Decay rate constant,k  = 0.00376/hr

Explanation:

IsT Order  Rate of reaction is given as

In At/ Ao = -Kt

where [A]t is the final concentration at time  t  and  [A]o  is the inital concentration at time 0, and  k  is the first-order rate constant.

Initial concentration = 80 mg/L

Final concentration = 50 mg/L

Velocity = 40 m/hr

Distance= 5000 m

Time taken = Distance / Time

              5000m / 40m/hr = 125 hr

In At/ Ao = -Kt

In 50/80 = -Kt

-0.47 = -kt

- K= -0.47 / 125

k = 0.00376

Decay rate constant,k  = 0.00376/hr

What happens to the amperage draw of a condensing unit on a split AC system if the liquid line is restricted
cupoosta [38]

Answer:

The amperage draw of the condensing unit will be low.

Explanation:

A condensing unit is made up of a compressor and condenser, while an evaporating unit is made up of an evaporator coil.

A split AC system is a type of air conditioner system that has a condensing unit which is placed separately from the evaporative coil unit. Then the two units are connected to each other via a copper tube containing refrigerants.

The liquid line connects the condenser to the evaporator, and if this liquid line is restricted, the amp consumed by the condensing unit will be low.

java Your program class should be called RomanNumerals Write a program that asks the user to enter a number within the range of
Ann [662]

Answer:

// Scanner class is imported to allow program

// receive input

import java.util.Scanner;

// RomanNumerals class is defined

public class RomanNumerals {

   // main method that signify beginning of program execution

   public static void main(String args[]) {

       // Scanner object scan is created

       // it receive input via keyboard

       Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);

       // Prompt is display asking the user to enter number

       System.out.println("Enter your number: ");

       // the user input is stored at numberOfOrder

       int number = scan.nextInt();

           // switch statement which takes number as argument

           // the switch statement output the correct roman numeral

           // depending on user input

          switch(number){

           case 1:

               System.out.println("I");

               break;

           case 2:

               System.out.println("II");

               break;

           case 3:

               System.out.println("III");

               break;

           case 4:

               System.out.println("IV");

               break;

           case 5:

               System.out.println("V");

               break;

           case 6:

               System.out.println("VI");

               break;

           case 7:

               System.out.println("VII");

               break;

           case 8:

               System.out.println("VIII");

               break;

           case 9:

               System.out.println("IX");

               break;

           case 10:

               System.out.println("X");

               break;

           // this part is executed if user input is not between 1 to 10

           default:

               System.out.println("Error. Number must be between 1 - 10.");

     }

   }

}

Explanation:

The program is well commented. A sample image of program output is attached.

The switch statement takes the user input (number) as argument as it goes through each case block in the switch statement and match with the corresponding case to output the roman version of that number. If the number is greater 10 or less than 1; the default block is executed and it display an error message telling the user that number must be between 1 - 10.
