Two parallel plate capacitors 1 and 2 are identical except that capacitor 1 has charge +q on one plate and charge −q on the othe

r, and capacitor 2 has charge +2q on one plate and −2q on the other. Compare these two capacitors based on their (a) capacitance, (b) potential difference between the plates, (c) electric field magnitude between the plates,(d) energy stored.

Answer:

a) the capacitance is the same for both capacitors.

b) The potential difference between the plates for the capacitor with charge +2q, is double of the one for the capacitor  with charge +q.

c) The electric field magnitude between the plates for the capacitor with charge +2q, is double of the one for the capacitor with charge +q

d) The energy stored between the plates for the capacitor with charge +2q, is 4 times the value for the one with charge +q

Explanation:

a) The capacitance of a capacitor, by definition, is as follows:

C = \frac{q}{V}

Appying Gauss' Law to one of plates, it can be showed, that the capacitance (for a parallel plates capacitor) can be  expressed as follows:

C = ε*A / d

As it can be seen, it does not depend on the charge. so we conclude that the capacitance must be the same for both capacitors, due to they are identical except for the value of the charge on the plates.

b) By definition, as we said above, the capacitance is equal to the proportion between the charge of one of the plates, and the potential difference between them.

If this proportion must remain the same, and one of the capacitors has the double of  the charge than the other, the potential difference must be the double also.

c) Applying Gauss' law, to the surface of one of  the plates, and assuming a constant surface charge density σ, it can be  showed that the  electric field can be calculated as follows:

E*A = Q/ε₀ as σ=Q/A

⇒ E = σ/ε₀

As σ is directly proportional to the charge (being the area A the same), we conclude that the electric field for the capacitor with charge +2q must be the double than the one for the capacitior with charge +q.

c) The electric potential energy, stored between plates of a capacitor, can be written as follows:

Ue = \frac{1}{2} *\frac{q^{2}}{C}

If the capacitance remains the same, we can conclude that the electric potential energy for the capacitor with charge +2q, as the charge is raised to the 2nd power, must be 4 times the one for the capacitor with charge +q.

The energy of the electron in Hydrogen atom can be shown to be given by En = -13.6/n^2 eV, where n represents the principal quan
Tpy6a [65]

Answer:

This represents radiation in ultra-violet region .

Explanation:

Energy of the orbit where n = 3 is given as follows

E_3 =- \frac{13.6 }{3^2}

E_3 =- \frac{13.6 }{9} = -1.511 eV

Energy of the orbit where n = 1 is given as follows

E_1 =- \frac{13.6 }{1^2}

E_1 =- \frac{13.6 }{1} = 13.6 eV

Difference of [tex]E_3 and [tex]E_1 = - 1.511+ 13.6

= 12.089 eV.

The wavelength of light having this energy in nm is given by the expression as follows

Wavelength in nm = 1244 / energy in eV

= 1244 / 12.089

= 102.90 nm

This represents radiation in ultra-violet region .

If you lose control of your vehicle and collide with a fixed object, such as a tree, at 60 m.p.h., the force of impact is the sa
My name is Ann [436]
You can compare the velocity of the car, 60 mph, with the velocity that a mass would acquire when falls from certain height.

First, convert 60 mph to m/s:

60 miles/h * 1.60 km/mile * 1000 m/km * 1h/3600s = 26.67 m/s

Second, calculate from what height a body in free fall reachs 26.67 m/s velocity when hits the floor.

free fall => Vf^2 = 2g*H => H = Vf^2 / (2g)

H = (26.67m/s)^2 / (2*9.8 m/s) = 36.2 m

If you consider that the height between the floors of a building is approximately 3.6 m, you get 36.2 m / 3.6 m/floor = 10 floors.

Then, you conclude that the force of impact is the same as driving you vehicle off a 10 story building.

(Double points) A mechanic used a wrench 0.6 meters long to loosen rusted lug nuts on a truck wheel. By standing on the end of t
Korolek [52]

Answer:

Torque, \tau=588\ N-m

Explanation:

It is given that,

Length of the wrench, l = 0.6 m

Mass of the wrench, m = 100 kg

We know that the torque applied by mechanic is given by :

\tau=Fl

\tau=mgl

\tau=100\times 9.8\times 0.6

\tau=588\ N-m

So, the torque applied by the mechanic is 588 N-m. Hence, this is the required solution.

An excited hydrogen atom releases an electromagnetic wave to return to its normal state. You use your futuristic dual electric/m
ryzh [129]

Answer:

The answer is -x direction.

Explanation:

According to the right hand rule for electromagnetism, when the thumb points up, index finger points forward and the middle finger is perpendicular to the index finger, the thumb points in the direction of the magnetic force, the index finger in the direction of the charge movement and the middle finger in the direction of the electromagnetic lines. If the electric field is pointing in the -z direction which is into the screen and the magnetic field is in the +y direction which is upwards, then the magnetic lines are in the -x direction.

I hope this answer helps.

A machinist turns on the power on to a grinding wheel at time t= 0 s. The wheel accelerates uniformly from rest for 10 s and rea
laiz [17]

The total number of revolutions made by the wheel is 514

Explanation:

We can solve the problem by applying the suvat equations for rotational motion, to the two different parts of the motion.

During the first part (acceleration), we have:

\omega_0 =0 (initial angular velocity)

\omega_1=58 rad/s (final angular velocity)

t_1=10 s (time)

So the angular displacement covered in this part is

\theta_1 = (\frac{\omega_0+\omega_1}{2})t_1 =(\frac{0+58}{2})(10)=290 rad

In the second part, we have uniform (circular) motion, with constant angular velocity

\omega_2 = 58 rad/s

for

t = 30 s

So the angular displacement in this part is

\theta_2 = \omega_2 t_2 = (58)(30)=1740 rad

In the third part, we have a decelerated motion, with constant angular acceleration of

\alpha=-1.4 rad/s^2

and initial angular velocity

\omega_2 = 58 rad/s

while final angular velocity is

\omega_3 = 0

So the angular displacement in this part is given by

\omega_3^2 - \omega_2^2 = 2\alpha \theta_3\\\theta_3 = \frac{\omega_3^3-\omega_2^2}{2\alpha}=\frac{0-58^2}{2(-1.4)}=1201 rad

So the total angular  displacement of the wheel is

\theta=290 + 1740 + 1201 = 3231 rad

Converting into revolutions,

\theta=3231 rad \cdot \frac{1}{2\pi rad/rev}=514 rev
