On your first trip to Planet X you happen to take along a 290 g mass, a 40-cm-long spring, a meter stick, and a stopwatch. You'r

e curious about the acceleration due to gravity on Planet X, where ordinary tasks seem easier than on earth, but you can't find this information in your Visitor's Guide. One night you suspend the spring from the ceiling in your room and hang the mass from it. You find that the mass stretches the spring by 23.0 cm . You then pull the mass down 11.7 cm and release it. With the stopwatch you find that 9.00 oscillations take 17.7 s.
Can you now satisfy your curiosity?

Answer:

The new value of g = 1.19 m/s^2

Explanation:

Mass  =290 g

Spring size  = 40 cm

The size of spring after streches = 23 cm

Pulling the mass down at  = 11.7 cm

The stopwatch shows the number of oscillations in 17.7 s = 9 osscillations.

The oscillation frequency is independent to g.

So, w = \sqrt{\frac{k}{m}} \\T = \frac{17.7}{9} = 1.966 \\W = \frac{2\pi}{T} = 3.197 \\w = \sqrt{\frac{k}{m}} \\k = w^{2}m \\k = (3.197)^{2} \times 0.29 = 2.96 N/M \\

The amount of spring stretch due to the hanging mass, x, is dependent on g.

Now, \ mg = kx \\g = \frac{kx}{m} \\g = \frac{2.96 \times 0.117}{0.29} = 1.19 m/s^{2}

Therefore, the new value of g = 1.19 m/s^2

A runner is moving at a constant speed of 8.00 m/s around a circular track. If the distance from the runner to the center of the
Genrish500 [490]

Answer: Last option

2.27 m/s2

Explanation:

As the runner is running at a constant speed then the only acceleration present in the movement is the centripetal acceleration.

If we call a_c to the centripetal acceleration then, by definition

a_c =w^2r = \frac{v^2}{r}

in this case we know the speed of the runner

v =8.00\ m/s

The radius "r" will be the distance from the runner to the center of the track

r = 28.2\ m

a_c = \frac{8^2}{28.2}\ m/s^2

a_c = 2.27\ m/s^2

The answer is the last option

A 180 lb crate is on the ground, and a strong rope is attached. You need to move it across the basement floor, which has a coeff
jekas [21]

Answer:

F = 505.13 N

Yes it is better to pull the rope rather than push it

Explanation:

Let the force is applied at an angle of 60 degree

so we will have net vertical force on the crate is given as

F_n + Fsin60 = mg

here we know

m = 180 lb

m = 81.65 kg

F_n = 81.65(9.81) - Fsin60

F_n = 801 - 0.866 F

now friction force on the crate is given as

F_x = \mu F_n

Fcos60 = 0.7(801 - 0.866 F)

0.5F + 0.61F = 560.7

F = 505.13 N

Yes it is better to pull the rope rather than push it

Two automobiles traveling at right angles to each other collide and stick together. Car A has a mass of 1200 kg and had a speed
sergij07 [2.7K]

Answer:

v_{B0}=15.73 m/s

Explanation:

We can use the conservation of momentum. The initial momentum is equal to the final momentum:

x-coordinate

p_{0x}=p_{fx}

m_{A}v_{A0}=(m_{A}+m_{B})v_{cx}

m_{A}v_{A0}=(m_{A}+m_{B})v_{c}cos(40) (1)

y-coordinate

p_{0y}=p_{fy}

m_{B}v_{B0}=(m_{A}+m_{B})v_{cy}

m_{B}v_{B0}=(m_{A}+m_{B})v_{c}sin(40) (2)

We can divide equations (2) and (1):

\frac{m_{B}v_{B0}}{m_{A}v_{A0}}=\frac{sin(40)}{cos(40)}

\frac{m_{B}v_{B0}}{m_{A}v_{A0}}=tan(40)

v_{B0}=\frac{m_{A}v_{A0}}{m_{B}}*tan(40)

v_{B0}=\frac{1200*25}{1600}*tan(40)

v_{B0}=15.73 m/s

I hope it helps you!
