A skier starts from rest at the top of a 20 degree incline and skis in a straight line to the bottom of the slope, a distance d

(measured along the slope) of 400 m. If the coefficient of kinetic friction between the skis and the snow is 0.2, calculate the skier's speed at the bottom of the run.

Answer:

Explanation:

Loss of potential energy = mgh.

h = d sin 20

= 400 sin20 = 136.8 m

Loss of potential energy = m x 9.8 x  136.8

= 1340.64 m

negative work done by friction = μ mg cosθ x d

= .2 x m x 9.8 x cos 20 x 400

= 736.72 m

Net loss of potential energy = 1340.64 m - 736.72 m

= 603.92 m

= gain of kinetic energy = 1/2 m v²

1/2 m v² = 603.92 m

v² = 1207.84

v = 34.75 m /s .

a.Calculate the average speed (in km/h) of Charlie, who runs to the store 4 kilometers away in 30 minutes. b.Calculate the dista
sveta [45]

as per the question charlie runs to the store which is  4 km away

hence the total distance covered [S] is 4 km

he takes 30 minutes to reach the store.

hence the total time taken [t] = 30 minutes=0.5 hour

We have to calculate the average speed.

the average speed[v]= =\frac{S}{t}

                                   =\frac{4 km}{0.5 hour}

                                    =8 km/hour

then we have to calculate the total distance traveled by charlie in 1 hour.

the distance covered S= V_{avg} *t

                                      =8 km/hour ×1 hour

                                      =8 km

Hence the average speed of charlie is 8 km/hour and he covers a distance of 8 km in 1 hour.

A tennis ball is dropped from a height of 3 m and bounces back to a height of
julsineya [31]

Answer:

To decide where the balls land, we need to determine how long the balls are in the air. Both balls will take 2 seconds to hit the ground.

Explanation:

1) Time played forward : gravity & drag forces are in opposite directions so it takes a longer time to reach the ground. 2) Time played backward : gravity & drag forces are in the same direction so it takes a shorter time to reach the ground.
